Comedy giant (e.g., The Dick Van Dyke Show) Carl Reiner is dead at 98. Unfortunately, this clip ends before Carl Reiner's funniest moment in Ocean's Twelve: which is when the Bruce Willis, playing movie star Bruce Willis, notices that Danny Ocean's wife, played by Julia Roberts, who is impersonating, for complicated heist-related reasons, Willis's good...
  • @EmailAsID
Carl Reiner has been living with Trump Derangement Syndrome since 2016. It took four years for TDS to finally do him in. Pretty tough guy.

It's sad that Carl Reiner never got to see the Russian collusion investigation that he and his meathead son, Rob, promoted so emotionally (if not rationally) finally rid America of Trump.

At least his son will be able to see the results of all their hard Leftist labor: watching blacks and Mexicans storm the beaches of Malibu and ridding it of its hideous whiteness.

Replies: @Mike Pierson, Davenport Rector, Midfielder, @Ancient Briton

It’ll never happen. The super-rich are very good at insulating themselves.

The fate you describe is what’s in store for the rest of us.

That's a very interesting story. I have to say , Brooks always struck as the kind of guy who is a miserable bastard in real life, so I'm glad to see I was wrong.

Replies: @The Germ Theory of Disease, @slumber_j, @Captain Blarg

Thanks. Who knows: maybe he is? And maybe he was just covering his bases “in this town.” But look, I obviously worked for an architect, so where does being nice to me get him?

I read it as very genuine at the time. And his long–albeit, it must be said, second–marriage speaks well of him. I think that interaction was legit.

A nice story, and there’s no reason not to suppose Mel Brooks is a decent guy.

But in addition to it being a courteous gesture, it’s just good business sense. Odds are, the person sitting next to the famous architect and the studio chief at lunch on the studio lot is going to be worth knowing. Whoever they are, they’re definitely not the busboy. And besides, always be nice to the assistant: by next year, he may be the one deciding the fate of your latest project. Even if you’re Mel Brooks, somebody is in charge of your budget.

I dearly wish that were true, but the obesity rate is pretty high in England too.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obesity_in_the_United_Kingdom#Comparison_within_Europe

According to the Global Burden of Disease Study published in 2013, the United Kingdom had proportionately more obese and overweight adults than anywhere in western Europe with the exception of Iceland and Malta. Using data from 1980 to 2013, in the UK 66.6% of men and 52.7% of women were found to be either overweight or obese. The figures for Malta were 74.0% of men and 57.8% of women and for Iceland were 73.6% of men and 60.9% of women respectively.[49]

The UK had the fifth highest rate of obesity in Europe in 2015. 24.9% of the adult population had a body mass index of 30 or more.[50] In 2016 according to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development nearly 27% of adults in the United Kingdom were obese, the highest proportion in Western Europe and a 92% increase since 1996.[51]

IIRC, the initial claim was that these “bank robber costumes,” or “face diapers” would protect the wearer from airborne pathogens. This was swiftly debunked, so the “party line” was quickly changed to “protect other people from the wearer.”
Thus, we were all instantly transformed into “unclean” individuals, to be avoided like lepers, and publicly shamed if we do not “protect” those around us from our “uncleanliness.”

Guess what? If “transhumanism” even partially succeeds, creatures with 500 (or more) years lifetime will not need to reproduce in their 20s or 30s. Clearly, the vast majority of the population will not be allowed access to such life extension technology. For them (the slaves), life will likely revert to the historical norm, i.e. nasty, brutish, and short.

The untermenschen will be bred for desirable characteristics as servants. Most of the male population will have been sterilized, a) for docility, and b) to prevent unauthorized reproduction. My guess is that within 40 years, over 90% of the male human population of “Western” countries will be incapable of natural reproduction, due to chemical sterilization via their drinking water.

Slav slaves were very popular in Islamic Spain. Here is some info about it.

The Slavic slaves sold to Muslim Spain included female concubines for the harems of the rich Arabs who were especially valued for their light complexion and blonde hair, and males, often brought in as young boys, who either became civil servants, palace servants, eunuchs at the above-mentioned harems, or, in the case of the physically strongest specimen, troops of the elite Slavic Guards, which served as “preatorian guards,†and whose soldiers enjoyed special privileges from the Arabic rulers of Spain. It must be also added that part of the Slavic slaves who arrived in Spain were later transferred to other locations in the Muslim world, like North Africa and even the Middle East; in the former, the existence of the Slavic Guards has also been confirmed (see below about the Slavic Guard at Nukur). According to Ibn Hauqal, the Slavic slaves were brought to Muslim Spain via Galicia, Frankia, the Lombard Kingdom, and Calabria in Southern Italy.

Here is more detail about slavery of Slavs in the Islamic world during the 9th and 11th centuries. Perhaps, this is a big reason that Eastern Europe can not be duped into this Zion MSM BLM movement.

    https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/international-journal-of-middle-east-studies/article/what-does-the-slave-trade-in-the-saqaliba-tell-us-about-early-islamic-slavery/EDDD35D8FD593AB8D576D11550CF62C6/core-reader

The Saqaliba—a term that in medieval Arabic literature denoted the Slavic populations of central and eastern Europe (and possibly some of their neighbors)—offer a particularly insightful case study of the mechanisms of the early Islamic slave trade and the nature of the Muslim demand for slaves. What makes them such an ideal case study is their high visibility in texts produced in the Islamic world between the early 9th and early 11th centuries. Arab geographers and diplomats investigated their origins, while archaeological material, primarily hundreds of thousands of dirhams found in Scandinavia and the Slavic lands, contains traces of the trade in them. By combining these strands of evidence, we can build an exceptionally detailed image of slave trade systems that supplied Saqaliba to the Islamic markets, which, in turn, can be used to illustrate more general mechanisms governing the trade in and demand for slaves in the medieval Islamic world.

There was a diversity of slaves in the Islamic world in the 11th century. Ibn Butlan listed twenty places of origin. Blacks (Zanj) and Saqaliba (Slavs) came from the most long distance places within the Islamic slave trade at that time. Thus, it implied a long term voyage for both of these type of slaves to arrive at their destinations compared to other slaves that were at the borders of the Islamic world.

We can perhaps see long-distance slave trade systems, with their complex logistics and immanent incertitude, as a special case rather than a pattern for the Islamic slave trade. Frontier trade and warfare all along the borders of the Islamic world appear to have been sufficient to satisfy the urban demand for domestic and sexual slaves. The diversity of these slaves’ geographical origins is illustrated by the mid-11th-century guidebook to purchasing slaves composed by Ibn Butlan, which listed more than twenty places of origin. With the exception of Zanj and Saqaliba supplied by long-distance trade systems, almost all of the slaves had been situated within or just outside the borders of the Islamic world. 14

Historically, the Jewish population since Late Antiquity, in the West and in Islamic lands, has been allowed to run wild as agents of the ruling establishment, harvest wealth from every failing person and institution in a society (even making some of them fail), and then find that hard times have arrived and the money they’ve accumulated is taken back.

This is a fairly common pattern in human history. Imperial China used Chinese businessmen in a very similar way. For that matter, the combatants in WW II _all_ used their rich that way; there wasn’t a combatant after WW II, winner or loser, that hadn’t completely looted their rich population ( Walter Scheidel, _The Great Leveler: Violence and the History of Inequality from the Stone Age to the Twenty-First Century_).

Those who think the rich run everything, or that the Jews do, should carefully consider this. After WW II, Jewish interest gained great influence because of Jewish participation in the Federal bureaucracy of the United States, and rich Jewish people were looted along with all other rich people.

Will the pattern repeat? Well, I won’t repeat it, couldn’t if I wanted to. As for everybody else, figure it out for yourselves.

  • dimples says:
    @mark tapley
Could only stand to go 25 minuets on this one but Mittledorf is trying to fit his theory of shortened life span to the theory of Neo-Darwinism. He speculates that life span is shortened from an evolutionary prospective because of competition for food. Life span would not be a factor unless it also resulted in more reproduction. In the wild animals this always tends to equalize with preditor and prey and in humans reproduction has become largely limited by our economy and culture.

Mittledorf is a disciple of Darwin and so does not question any of the obvious problems. Where are Darwin's new kinds of animals, where are all the missing links that should be widely evident? The geologic tree has no transitional animals. The sedimentary layers only appear in charts or text books as depicted, never in the real world. Mutation was the evolutionists last hope and now we know that rather than creating more genetic data for that still hoped for new animal, it is instead adding more errors each generation and reducing genetic material.

When people and animals are on a restricted diet they will tend to live longer. This is because they stimulate less insulin. Carried too far however and you get muscle loss that mimics the old age that they are trying to avoid. And of course people that are truly in starvation mode often incur a serious refeeding problem that can be life threatening.

The longest confirmed human lifespan was the woman in France. I think she was 121. Genesis 6:3 says man can get 120 years. This does not mean exact but that is the approximate limit. None of the Darwinian longevity gurus have extended this allotted time.

“Where are Darwin’s new kinds of animals, where are all the missing links that should be widely evident? ”

The best evidence for transitional forms (or missing links) are the marine mammals. the seals in particular, dugongs, whales, dolphins. All show evidence for different stages of transition from land animals to seagoing creatures. The fur seals for example have fur, ears, a head like a bear, breath air, give birth on land, have claws on the ends of their legs, walk around on four legs etc. But of course, I forgot, they are fakes created by Satan to fool the non-believers.

    •ï¿½Replies: @mark tapley
    @dimples

Just similar designs like sharks and porpoises. Still no transitions. Out of the millions of fossils they would have found one by now. Evolutionists have made numerous attempts like Lucy and the Coelencanth fish that was caught off Madagascar and said to be extinct for millions of years. since that one several more have been brought up.

The evolutionist shill magazine National Geographic even had an article about the discovery of transitional birds at one of the archaeological digs. Turned out someone had been butchering chickens for lunch. Or what about the transitional tooth found in Nebraska of our primitive ancestor. Turned out to be a pig tooth. Then there was the skull found in the mine pit in England. Displayed for years in the museum as one of our transitional relatives. That is until someone pointed out the bullet hole. Then there were the siblings in Turkey, unable to walk upright that according to the evolutionary Phd's had reverted back to the time when we were still hanging from the trees. Conveniently swept under the rug. They had faked the peppers moth myth it is now known. Another transitional scam. Dinosaurs are supposed to be extinct from 70 million years ago but now even the true believers of the Darwinian fable are finding proteins, soft ligaments and blood vessels in the bones. We have the fossilized footprints around the Dallas area where man and dinosaurs walked at the same time. Wasn't near that long ago.

The evolutionists who shill for the Jew media and proclaim the Darwinian fairy tales are always seeking more grants bestowed on them in order to move their career of fraud forward. The evolution wizards say it all started with the primordial chemical soup (where that comes from they omit) but with all the multi million dollar laboratories and chemicals of every formulation, and scientists all over, they cannot put amino acids together to make the simplest proteins and create even the most rudimentary life.

Fair enough. Around 1990 when I was working for the architect Richard Meier at his LA office in Westwood while Richard Meier + Partners were working on The Getty Center project, Barry Diller (who was then running Fox) summoned Richard for a meeting. Diller, with his (almost certainly gay) fastidiousness in high gear, was tired of all the moviemaking clutter on the Fox Lot and wanted to engage RM+P to do a master plan that would make everything super-neat: no more trailers or whatever.

This preposterous project waddled along for a while with the firm producing drawings and Richard presenting them at meetings, and one possible reason it had legs at all was that Fox meanwhile wanted to expand their physical operations into some I guess still-vacant land they owned in adjacent Century City. The neighbors were of course deeply unhappy about this, and I think Fox's thinking was that if Richard could make it all really pretty, the neighbors might be more receptive.

So one day Richard--and I, acting as his recording secretary basically--went to have lunch at the Fox Commissary with David Handelman, who was Fox's head counsel and a surprisingly nice man, to discuss the whole Century City aspect of the thing. On our way to the table, up pops Mel Brooks to shake Richard's hand. "I was just at a house you did on Fire Island maybe ten days ago! It was GREAT!!" Etc. etc.

The pleasantries go on for a minute, with Brooks also greeting Handelman, and finally we turn to go to our table as Mel Brooks is sitting down. But half a second later, Brooks realizes he's ignored me and springs back up and holds his hand out to introduce himself to the straggling young flunky. "Hi! I'm Mel! I didn't get your name!"

I thought it was a really un-Hollywood move on his part, and an indication that he was actually a good guy. And I haven't forgotten it.

  • OT but maybe of interest: Harvard has suddenly backed down almost completely on its vendetta against single-sex social organizations, using the recent pro-gay Supreme Court decision as its rationale. My wife points out that Harvard President Bacow promulgated this new position on the penultimate day of Harvard’s fiscal year–perhaps to scare up a few (utterly pointless given the Brobdingnagian endowment) donations from heretofore disgruntled alumni before close of year.

    Full text below the fold:

Dear Members of the Harvard Community,

Like many of us, I was greatly heartened by the landmark Supreme Court decision holding that federal law bars employers from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation or transgender status. This civil rights milestone secures vital protections for millions of individuals who have so long been vulnerable under the law.

While marking a major advance for LGBTQ rights, the Court’s decision in Bostock v. Clayton County also has significant implications for Harvard College’s policy on unrecognized single-gender social organizations. That policy itself does not concern sexual orientation or transgender status. It was adopted for the purpose of counteracting overt discrimination on the basis of sex—specifically, the exclusion of Harvard College students from social organizations because of their gender.

Last August, in a lawsuit brought by fraternities and sororities to challenge the policy, Judge Gorton of the United States District Court in Boston denied Harvard’s motion to dismiss the case. In essence, the court accepted the plaintiffs’ legal theory that the policy, although adopted to counteract discrimination based on sex, is itself an instance of discrimination based on sex. The court reasoned that the policy applies to men but not women who seek to join all-male social organizations and applies to women but not men who seek to join all-female social organizations, and that this constitutes sex discrimination under federal law. In reaching this view, Judge Gorton relied heavily on the reasoning in one of the appellate decisions (Zarda v. Altitude Express ) that was affirmed by the Supreme Court. It now seems clear that Judge Gorton would ultimately grant judgment in the plaintiffs’ favor in the pending lawsuit and that Harvard would be legally barred from further enforcing the policy.

In view of the Supreme Court’s decision, following Judge Gorton’s prior opinion in the lawsuit against Harvard, the Corporation consulted with the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Dean of Harvard College, and the University’s General Counsel last week. We together came to the view that, in the circumstances, the College will not be able to carry forward with the existing policy under the prevailing interpretation of federal law. As a result, following a vote of the Corporation on Friday to rescind its prior approval, the policy will no longer be enforced.

Let me emphasize, however, that while we will not be replacing the policy, the guiding purpose behind the policy remains as important as ever. The policy was adopted to advance the essential and unfinished work of making Harvard a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all our students—of creating a community in which students are not denied the opportunity to participate in aspects of undergraduate life simply because of their gender. Harvard is fairer and better when a student’s gender does not stand as a barrier to social opportunities while in college or inhibit students’ access to alumni networks that can help enable opportunities later in life.

We applaud the many previously single-gender social organizations that have changed their membership policies to become more inclusive since the College first announced its policy in 2016. And, especially at a time of intense nationwide scrutiny directed at structures and systems that have reinforced privilege and inequity throughout society, we urge the remaining unrecognized single-gender social organizations to take this occasion to reflect further on their own membership policies. This is a moment when many organizations are questioning and rethinking longstanding practices that have contributed to exclusion and unequal opportunity. I hope that both the students who lead the remaining single-gender social organizations and the graduates who govern them will see fit to join in that effort, in the spirit of inclusion that our students deserve and our times demand.

    Sincerely,
    Larry

Just after listening to Bredesen & Hyman talk about the shift from the "what" to the "why" of understanding and curing disease, an email arrived from my medical insurance provider admonishing me to "wear a mask," and helpfully including a video on its proper installation.

A freak situation gave me a small window into what is going on in hospitals and medical centers during this scandemic. Hospitals were shut down; surgeons were reduced to answering emails; oncologists taped their doors shut and did not see patients. Medical facilities and office buildings were empty shells guarded by the precursors of BLM, reveling in their roles as prison wardens. The medical profession has been undermined, perhaps for many long years: the notion of physician-as-healer has been replaced by a system whereby amortizing expensive technology is the first consideration of "diagnosis."

Groundbreaking medical THINKING such as Bredesen and Hyman have been developing will be pushed to a back-burner; lives that their insights could have improved will fall victim to "wear a mask."

They are taking it too far. I agree with a lot of your critique but nevertheless it doesn't imply that deadly pandemics have ceased to bother us or that appropriate preventive measures shouldn't be taken. Quarantining those afflicted with communicable diseases was widely practiced in the past, even for non-deadly ones such as rubella. Maybe it isn't such a bad idea for quarantine to make a comeback - as long as it's truly warranted. And of course they will use this to extend their control and pass other measures that are in line with the general plans of TPTB. We have all got access to the same information now so everyone can make up their own mind how to proceed. The measures are certainly an inconvenience but getting a positive result would inconvenience you even more.

The Japanese title of High and Low… literally means “Heaven and Hell.†But High and Low is a good title, because the movie is constructed around the contrasts between a modernist mansion… and the crowded, chaotic city below.

While HIGH AND LOW as title is certainly workable, it misses at the bigger meaning of the film. ‘High’ and ‘Low’ indicate differences in wealth and status, but Kurosawa finds something darker than mere economic hardship and poverty. One can be in the low world but not in hell. ‘Hell’ is a moral and spiritual condition. Kurosawa’s earlier films showed much poverty. But in ONE WONDERFUL SUNDAY where a couple barely have enough money for a cup of coffee, they are still in a kind of heaven than hell because they have each other.

The hell in HIGH AND LOW is not the world of the poor. It’s a state of mind, the destruction of souls. The film goes from the rich world to the world of the poor, but we still don’t see hell. We see hell when we meet the kidnapper and the world of addiction. We also see hell in the raucous night club scene. Now, hedonism isn’t necessarily hellish, and every city has(and even needs) something like a Red-Light District, but there’s something especially sleazy about the night-club scene and not because of some gorilla-like big-ass Negro fattened on fried chicken. It is a vision of Japan as un-Japan, a zone not only of military occupation but cultural degeneration. The racial mix in the club are united only by noise, rancor, and amnesia. (It’s different from the folk music in HIDDEN FORTRESS that confirm the community.) Now, if such stuff can be restricted to the Red-Light District, it wouldn’t be so bad, but such Americanism came to serve as the blueprint for ALL OF CULTURE and ALL OF SOCIETY and ALL AROUND THE WORLD, a hellish vision of the Kalergi Plan of no borders, no limits, no thoughts of past or future but just the thrill of the jungle moment. What is the main expression of Western Civilization today? ‘Twerking’. At least the Twist(seen in the movie) was a half-decent kind of dance.

So, using ‘low’ than ‘hell’ misses what the film is ultimately about. It’s about something worse than poverty of means. It’s about the poverty of the soul. In this respect, HIGH AND LOW is a more lavish variation of STRAY DOG where the gun-thief and his girlfriend have adopted a kind of nihilism. Indeed, the scenes of arrests of the criminals in the two films are similar. They are handcuffed amidst flowers and reminders of innocence lost.

Also, ‘heaven’ lends a special meaning that ‘high’ simply misses. It adds an element of irony for the ‘heavenly’ world of the high is filled with its own demons. And in a way, the problems of ‘heaven’ is connected to ‘hell’. While the kidnapper was likely born evil or had a childhood so bitter & painful that he went crazy, he is also the product of New Japan as created as part of the US empire with the collaboration of the merchant and war-criminal class. Initially, US Occupation worked with the Japanese Left against the Militarist Right. But things soon changed as China turned communist and Soviet Union became the main rival of US power. Also, the Japanese Left got too radical and demanding. So, the US rehabilitated many militarist elites who’d earlier been accused of war crimes. So, many of the militarist elites who’d once sworn to fight the US to the last man were working as toadies, which ended up creating, more or less, a one-party system in Japan totally loyal to the US. As such, there was no national theme in Japan but economic growth and materialism. It was all about the Money, and the kidnapper is someone who grew up under the new system. Of course, his crime is his own. After all, most Japanese, regardless of circumstances, didn’t go around committing crimes or kidnapping kids. Still, his soullessness is part of the larger disease flowing from those on top. Just like the corrupt businessmen in BAD SLEEP WELL are capable of ANYTHING to get what they want, the kidnapper follows the same logic. The differences is that those with privilege and connections can pull strings and get away with it. In contrast, low-level criminals when caught must face justice.

In a way, it could be Kurosawa’s commentary on how he became a director. Before Film Studies in universities, film-makers rose up the ranks by doing just about everything. They mopped floors, served as extras, learned various skills and tricks on the job. This was true of men like Raoul Walsh and John Ford. While young film-makers today must also work up the ladder, they develop more of a privileged mindset because they enter the profession through college courses. They begin with a cerebral outlook and seek to specialize as writers, producers, or directors. But in Kurosawa’s time, you had to work yourself from the shop floor. You began like the privates in FULL METAL JACKET, as grunts and maggots. Same with newspapers. Before elite college kids filled the ranks of journalism, many had entered the profession through experience. Now, the Film School system isn’t necessarily bad. It did produce great directors like Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese, among others. But, psychologically at least, it’s about going from high to high than working from low to high.

So, characterizing Gondo primarily as a ‘businessman’ would be misleading. The workers in the factory seem to respect him despite his hot temper because he knows the industry from shop floor to high office. Still, as a businessman, he’s far from virtuous and is capable of gambling everything and acting like a shark. Though his partners aren’t saints, his underhanded plot to take over the company was ethically dubious. (Also, Gondo didn’t only plot against the partners but against the ‘old man’ who, though behind the times, seems a man of principle in product quality. The bigger question is why would the ‘old man’, who stodgily insists on the old way, cooperate with unscrupulous short-term profiteers? I suppose the latter could be more shameless in flattering the ‘old man’ in his presence, much like the older sons in RAN who win the approval of their father while planning his demise.) Worse, without consulting his wife, Gondo put up the family house up as collateral to acquire the loans, thereby risking everything in a daring move to take over the company. Because he bet so much, his fall is especially hard when he must pay the ransom. In a way, he’s a victim of his own hubris, despite the fact that his vision of the company was nobler than that of his partners.

The ending is happy but haunting. In this case, justice has triumphed, but at great cost. Evil and chaos will always threaten order and goodness.

Can the ending be said to be ‘happy’? Sure, the criminal is caught and brought to justice, but the final scene is grim. Also, by ‘evil and chaos’ threatening the order, what if the very order breeds such evil and chaos(especially of the soul)? In a way, the kidnapper is an agent of evil and chaos. In another way, he is the product of the New Order, a Japan of materialism without a soul. A nation whose survival and livelihood depend on playing whore to US imperialism. Japan gained tremendous economic benefits as a vassal of the US, but what did it lose?
Before defeat, Japan was plagued with a different kind of evil. This Japan did have a soul. It did have a meaningful connection to the past. The Emperor represented the Japanese people’s connection to their history and to their island nation as not merely a piece of rock but sacred homeland. Through the Emperor, Japanese blood was one with Japanese soil. But with Japan as an imperialist power in its own right, the Yamato spirit had grown cancerous and risked everything. In doing so, it committed great crimes all over Asia and got embroiled with war with US(and then USSR) and then lost everything and had to start from ground zero as the Tokyo Shoeshine Boy and Mamasan of the US. In a way, Gondo’s attempted putsch and the son’s overly ambitious battle plan at the end of KAGEMUSHA have something in common with Japanese imperial ambitions. They put all the eggs in one basket, took a huge gamble, and lost everything. Still, militarist Japan stood for something. Japanese people were bound together, high and low, not only by material need but a sense of national culture and spiritual connection to the past.

With defeat and under US occupation, there were surely great gains in freedoms and economic development. Lots of good positive stuff in many walks of life. But a people cannot live with bread and liberty alone. They need meaning, connection, and pride as a people, and that was totally lost. The new elites of Japan promoted this soulless Japan, and in a way, the kidnapper’s attack on the rich could be, on some subconscious level, a strike against their perfidy. After all, in a nation with meaning, even the poor might feel some ‘spiritual’ connection to the rulers. In his autobiography, Kurosawa said he despised the military dictatorship during the war(and didn’t believe in the literal divinity of Hirohito), but if the Emperor had told the people to commit mass ritual suicide, he would have. What this suggests was that pre-defeat Japan, though defined by some very dark atavistic ideas, was a nation of meaning. There was some real connection between the rulers and the ruled.

In contrast, the kidnapper, like most Japanese of postwar Japan, has no soulful connection with Japanese leaders or Japanese nation. Japan is just a marketplace, or worse, a big brothel. Japanese are no longer part of a tree but mere mushrooms growing on rotting wood, which seems to be the theme of ATTACK OF THE MUSHROOM PEOPLE(which came out the same year as HIGH AND LOW). Just like underwater atomic blast unleashed Godzilla, it seems something about the New Order made way for the monstrous soul of the kidnapper, especially as he’s meant to be more than a mere individual. He stands as an archetype of soul-malaise, as the inspector stands for duty, dedication, and professionalism.
In BAD SLEEP WELL, Kurosawa felt nothing but contempt for undying loyalty based on profits. Why should underlings sacrifice their lives for men who stand for nothing but money? But in KAGEMUSHA, despite the oppressive and unjust ways(by modern standards) of the feudal order, Kurosawa is willing to empathize. It is an order of culture, tradition, and meaning, indeed one that so moves the thief that, in the end, he chooses to die for it though he could have chosen to live out his life as a free man without attachment. (The pathology of the killer in VENGEANCE IS MINE is also associated with the theme of weakness. Not only is the killer living in post-defeat Japan but he was raised by a Christian father who seemed so weak and pathetic. It’s as if the son over-compensates as the absolute opposite of his father. His characterization is both more mundane and terrifying than the kidnapper in HIGH AND LOW. Whereas the kidnapper is a damaged soul, a man-turned-monster by whatever reasons, the killer of Imamura’s film defies all labels and brands but is nothing more or less than a man. And if the kidnapper, on some level, can feel his own sickness and feel normal human emotions — no matter how much he represses them — , the psycho in VENGEANCE truly unnerves us as evidence that man can be so far removed from human values but still seem so human.)

But in a nation without meaning, the rich are simply rich and the poor are simply poor. Consider the new West. In the past, despite class tensions, white folks of a national community might have felt some cultural and spiritual link with their rulers. Today, there is only status for the rich and resentment among the poor. Indeed, if the mob rounded up rich globalist urbanites and threw them into a bonfire, would most of us care? As much as I loathe BLM and Antifa, I watched with pleasure as they ransacked parts of Manhattan and boutique stores around L.A. In a way, Antifa’s embrace of BLM is a reaction to white elite’s embrace of Magic Negro and Diversity. White elites have been telling the white masses, “You are a bunch of ‘racists’, and we GOOD white elites care about blacks and diversity.” Antifa, filled with ranks of ‘white trash’ with some education, romp around with a twist of the white elite logic. Antifa whites in the streets say, “We embrace black rage and attack privileged blue cities filled with white elite privilege.” Elites used pro-blackness as fancy perfume. Antifa uses pro-blackness as Molotov Cocktail. Elites want to pretend it’s mostly about ‘peaceful protesters’, but reality says otherwise. (Amusingly enough, the elites are trying to unite BLM with globo-homo in the hope that all that ‘gay’ stuff may pacify black rage somewhat. Don’t be so black with rage, wave the colorful rainbow with smiley face. And let’s sing about black trannies for a change.)

White America once seemed the model for all the world, but it has proven to be a delusion, something that can be discerned in HIGH AND LOW. What has this White America done in the post-WWII period? It ceded power to Jewish globalists and defined its core culture as youth culture based on black rhythms. It favored short-term thrills over long-term virtue. Fast-forward to 2020, and White America is a trashy, soulless culture that either marches with globo-homo and BLM thuggery or cravenly cowers its head while its heritage, statues, monuments, and symbols are torn down everywhere. If this is the fate of White Americanism, why should any majority population follow down the same path? In a way, the white-cuck elites of the GOP are like post-war Japanese elites that chose to play dog to the US as long as it received regular doggy biscuits. GOP is now a useless cuck-party whose only purpose is to cower before Jews and play roll over as lons as the cuck-collaborator insiders get their doggy treats. The White American Model to all the world is “Surrender your identity, body, and soul to the worship of Jewish globalists, decadent homos, and wild Negroes.”
This is why neither capitalism nor leftism cannot serve as the Core Principle of a People and Culture. Capitalism is useful as economic system, and leftism can do good by emphasizing some measure of equal justice and people’s interests. But capitalism ultimately comes down to ‘muh profits’, and leftism, in its puritanical obsession with justice-and-more-justice, ends up waging endless war on all culture and tradition that doesn’t satisfy the latest demands. Thus, ideally capitalism and leftism must revolve around something else. It’s no wonder that Jews have chosen a kind of national-socialism for themselves while pushing either soulless capitalism(or libertarianism) or ‘leftism’ on everyone else. Libertarian whites will never unite as white people as they’re all about ‘muh individualism’, and ‘leftist’ whites will be too obsessed with stamping out ‘white privilege’ and ‘racism’ to ever develop a sense of white identity or white culture. As for conservatism, it can only say ‘oh, please stop’, as Bill Buckley did. Only neo-fascism can save a people, and that is why Jews, despite all their diatribes against ‘fascism’, practice a form of fascism for themselves. But it’s a bad kind like German National Socialism because it’s imperialist and supremacist than national-humanist. Still, Jews understand the need to fuse respect for Jewish tradition/identity with room for individualism and acceptance of modernity.

One thing that might disturb some viewers about HIGH AND LOW is the presentation of capital punishment as just desserts for the kidnapper. The inspector played by Tatsuya Nakadai is presented as an admirable character, and it is his idea to convict the kidnapper on murder as well, thereby sending him to the gallows than merely have him serve fifteen years for holding a child hostage. Was Kurosawa okay with capital punishment? If so, maybe it had something to do with his samurai background. After all, Japanese culture is one where it’s worth dying for honor. Then, death is surely an option for a unrepentant psychotic punk.

It is also an avant garde cinematic experiment—in fact a whole series of them—a fact that most viewers are too enthralled to even notice. It really sneaks up on you.

Kurosawa’s modernist touches were only that: touches. HIGH AND LOW has traditional narrative conventions with some fresh elements, but it is far from avant-garde, which reached its artistic peaks with Hiroshi Teshigahara’s FACE OF ANOTHER and perhaps Yoshishige Yoshida’s EROS + MASSACRE, which isn’t easy watching. Seijun Suzuku got canned for his avant-garde experiment BRANDED TO KILL and later returned to modernism with the TAISHO TRILOGY. There is a fresh and exciting quality to HIGH AND LOW, and in it one can see seeds of movies like THE FRENCH CONNECTION, which too is essentially conventional storytelling for the most part. HIGH AND LOW is even less avant-garde than THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE and DR. STRANGELOVE, both of which stick mostly with conventional narrative form.

Now, some people think modernism is like a linear progression, something more ‘advanced’. But while modernism created whole new possibilities and pushed boundaries, the arts can’t be judged like science. We can value Picasso and Stavinsky, but the notion that their works are ‘more advanced’ than those of Botticelli and Wagner is one of those unfortunate conceits that did much to undermine art and creativity. Consider the damage done to serious music by music departments controlled by modernists who insisted on certain ‘radical’ schools of music as the ‘most advanced’. Modernism is most painful when those who don’t really get it apply it inappropriately to works that don’t have a genuine modernist bone in its body… like Kurosawa’s ridiculous color schemes in DODES’KA-DEN.

Perhaps, Kurosawa got confused with modernism because of RASHOMON with its unusual(at the time) chronology. But in fact, Kurosawa gave a rather conventional treatment to a genuine piece of modernist writing by Akutagawa. To be sure, Kurosawa did revolutionize film-making. No one did action like Kurosawa in SEVEN SAMURAI, a hugely influential film. And YOJIMBO’s sardonic sensibility was new in cinema. And in films like IKIRU, HIGH AND LOW, DERSU UZALA, and later RAN, Kurosawa chose the somewhat unconventional approach of reaching the dramatic peak before the first half and then spending the rest of the film to return, re-examine, and/or resolve the issues. In the more conventional dramatics of SEVEN SAMURAI, the tension builds and builds until reaching crescendo in the final scene. In IKIRU, HIGH AND LOW, DERSU UZALA, and RAN, the emotional peak is reached in the first third or half of the film, and for that reason, some viewers might find the rest of the film anticlimactic. Stanley Kauffmann much admired IKIRU but thought the long funeral scene where the guests piece the puzzle together overlong and redundant. The emotional peak of DERSU UZALA is when the Goldi hunter bids farewell to the Russian explorers, and therefore the story following the reunion unfolds more like a long aftermath than second act. RAN reaches its emotional peak in the first hour, and the rest, like APOCALYPSE NOW following the helicopter raid, tends to meander in search for shape and meaning. HIGH AND LOW is feverish drama in the first hour, and rest of the film is about picking up the pieces and very different in tone from the first act and half. Alfred Hitchcock did something similar with PSYCHO where the seemingly lead character is killed off in the first third, followed by the rest that’s about clue work.

The first hour of HIGH AND LOW is clearly the best. The final twenty minutes are pretty suspenseful. But the second hour is problematic. It is good cinema but only good. Perhaps, Kurosawa should have balanced the second hour more between the police and the kidnapper. Also, instead of presenting the police as so cool and professional, dramatizing them with warts and all(as every police department has its own craziness and flaws) would have been more engaging. And it would have been better if the kidnapper was explored a bit more than kept as a cipher with a troubled soul. He’s presented more as cold-blooded reptile than a sick-souled man. Kurosawa said the artist he admires most is Dostoevsky but he missed a Dostoevskyian opportunity. At best, the kidnapper remains Dostoevskyian only on the surface.

The police work may remind us of the head samurai’s preparations in SEVEN SAMURAI. He surveys the nearby region, scours for weak spots, draws up a map, and pools resources to devise a plan of battle. Still, it’s more compelling in SEVEN SAMURAI than in HIGH AND LOW. But that may largely owe to the fact that defense of a village is simpler and clearer than navigating a huge city for tidbits of clues that may lead to the criminal. It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack. In SEVEN SAMURAI, the planners know what they are defending. In HIGH AND LOW, the planners have too many ideas and too few leads. A far more challenging and elusive task.

Examples of Monarchies that pursued total ethnic replacement as their central governing strategy? (Obviously an invasion of a foreign land to be replaced by their own citizens wouldn't count, as foreigners weren't citizens. Besides, this is a much less perverse policy if still unethical).

The problems of monarchy have been severe, but recoverable (short of mistakes that got their entire kingdom wiped out, but that's usually not purely bad governance, and there are no roving barbarian hordes now that could challenge the military of any modern state). But liberal democracy is bent on destroying western nations permanently within the next century, it's literally the worst thing that a government could possibly do to its subjects.

And besides that, most of monarchy's problems stem from having a permanent ruler (or ruling class) that can't be removed for governing badly. Well, does anyone with a brain really think the rulers of the Western world change every few years? It's more like their tools for interacting with the levers of power change slightly every year. But this of course is messy and harder to manage, and since they have no 'de jure' legitimacy for their rule, this leads to the totally destructive schemes we're currently subject to as methods of ensuring a smoother transition between the managerial class.

I believe with absolute certainty that we would be better of with direct legal rule beneath EVEN the current ruling class, because then these convoluted vote rigging schemes and labor arbitrage with the third world (to please the business class) wouldn't be necessary. Further, it would lead to a clearer understanding of how power works (which is totally non existent in the west), and counterintuitively, at least some measure of responsibility and accountability for their actions. Nobles, kings, etc occasionally got killed for doing a terrible job. If you think middlemen getting voted out of office (complete with fat pension) is accountability, you're dreaming.

Today, all discontent with governance is directed at the 'system'. If you think anger at the 'system' (which 99.9% of people have absolutely no understanding of, and which they can only conceive of in a way that the propaganda of the ruling class dictates) worries international Oligarchs, I promise you it doesn't. Now imagine if all of this violent and aimless anger were instead directed at those few particular people who were responsible for how society operates. Now that's an incentive not to fuck everyone over.

Yes, there are several examples. The Vandals under King Gaiseric, having conquered Rome, then “Romanized themselves, largely adopting the language, customs, architecture, and even the administrative systems of their enemies. As a result, little distinctly “Vandal” evidence of their occupation now exists.”

I was under the impression that the Vandal conquest of Africa had different, more negative dynamics at work than the other Germanic invasions, and did resemble more than anything else a foreign occupation. Their high-handed governing methods-including religious persecution of their orthodox subjects-in North Africa were a huge part in why Justinian's reconquest succeeded. The locals deeply resented them by the time Belisarius landed.

The Ostrogoths and Franks were more tactful: and much more Romanizable.

USA will become overtly socialist and drift into communism.

Doubt that the US could have a stable government in that situation. Government would be of one ethnic group, citing the Civil Rights act as its justification. Trouble is, there are several ethnic groups — White, Hispanic, Black, Asian — who would dispute such a rule.

So, in addition to drifting into poverty as Venezuela has, the US would drift into a very weak and often disputed ethnic government that, as you say, would most likely always cite Socialism and Communism as is organizing principle.

    Clearly the answer is no.

Maybe not by means of revolution, but by means of self-organization, of people forming an imperium in imperio and preparing for the coming instability…absolutely.

The coming instability is more right-wing wishful thinking.

There are religious and cultural groups doing so right now.

D, I actually agree with you to a certain extent. I think the “coming civil war” crowd is deluded (and thankfully so, war sucks). Ditto for the “US has only 10 years before a financial apocalypse” people, I’ve argued against that exact line of reasoning in these comments before.

By “instability” I just mean a gradual weakening of our state and its institutions, which many would say is not only inevitable, but already upon us. We all know the US isn’t functioning, on balance, as well as it did in the past. Maybe there will be a collapse but more likely it will just be a gradual fading away. Remember, if you asked a Western European in AD 500 whether the Roman Empire still existed in the West, he would have answered “of course” it did. The vast majority of the barbarian invaders ruled in the name of Rome, most famously Odoacer. The Italian economy largely continued to function as it had before into the mid 6th century. The “Fall of Rome” as a single event or date is an incredibly stupid concept, one reflected in today’s doomerists.

My point is this: a monarchy (or any other heterodox government) in North America doesn’t require a violent reaction. It doesn’t even necessarily require some kind of dramatic collapse. As the American state gradually weakens, and its official institutions fail to perform competently, parallel institutions have the potential to step in and fill those roles. I mean, look at the Latino gangs defending their neighborhoods from looters. That is literally a return to warlords circa 500 BC. Can you get any more “traditional” than that?

That's possible. But it's also possible that a gradually declining US will become increasingly authoritarian and totalitarian. It's even possible that both will happen - that quasi-self governing microstates will emerge for a while, and then get savagely crushed.

It's a horrible thought but it may be possible have both totalitarianism and chaos at the same time.

Or it could be like the Roman Empire, going through periods of chaos followed by periods of stability which are then followed by further periods of chaos.

But I don't think the kinds of things you have in mind are likely to be possible in the short or medium terms. Maybe in another half a century. Rome took a long long time to die.

One would expect the Nation of Islam to research Jews selling slaves. The irony in this, is that all parties in this are not looked at. Darío Fernández-Morera "The Myth of the Andalusian Paradise: Muslims, Christians, and Jews Under Islamic Rule in Medieval Spain" is a look at Islam in Spain, but does make mention of this connection, but only a bad researcher would stop there. Dr. John Azumah's book "The Legacy of Arab Islam in Africa" (you can find an interview on YouTube with Samuel Green with the author) takes another look a the slave trade. David Horowitz' recent article "The Hate America Project" aka 1619 Project points out that the major slave traders were two nations, Ghana and Benin. The slaves were the spoils of war. Recently, the Democrats did there kneeling in memory of George Floyd? Those clothes they wore around their necks? Islamic Spain had slaves just like anywhere else in the Islamic world at that time.

  • “Homer’s “Odyssey†depicts the slaves as effectively members of the owner’s family.’

As I noted in my comments. Some civilizations engaged in the practice very differently one from another. it was not an uncommon practice on the Continent of Africa, in Grecian and Roman societies, even among the Egyptians that slaves were artisans, teachers, accountants, and held various posts with the structure of the societies in which they were saves — but they were slaves nonetheless and that meant they existed for the benefit of whoever ‘owned’ them or to whom they were indebted.

And among some African societies the slaves could become adopted members of the same as equal members a thought they ad always been. But slavery in general was something that invited universal disdain and more.

I agree with your observation with this caveat, slaves were considered part of the family among slave owners in the southerns as well and extension of the families will, without regard for the same benefit(s).

You say you abhor the term “Whiteâ€, but admit there are no non-White Europeans.

Using the term to describe skin-color in a superficial way is very different from promoting it as an ethnic identifier. I have no problem with a phrase like "her neck, it was just like a swan" - I'm not that autistic. But I do have a problem with it being used to rob children of their heritage, to pretend as though they have no history, no culture, or no home, or that they should be ashamed and without pride.

    What terminology do you prefer?

Already addressed. In a broad sense, "European" or "Euro." It is fairly short and manageable and has wide recognition. Let me say, I think we should seek out meta-ethnic identifiers, on a global level. I think others would benefit from them, as well. I have previously proposed a symposium of people from the Sub-continent, where they could agree on a general name.

Are there any “Whites†not of European heritage?

Honestly, this seems like a silly question to me. It is in the liberal vein of perpetually trying to find fuzzy borders. (Ex: some women can benchpress 300 lbs!) Always dishonest - they pretend there are no races, but not when it can be used to gain power - then they never hesitate to pull the trigger. I could give you my personal definition, but what is the point? Who genuinely cares about the issue? Are the Caucuses under some massive, unprecedented invasion? Are they numerous, powerful, and inclined to be vociferous allies? It is a question for anthropologists! It is not an important political question, outside of immigration, and the ability to integrate into European culture. Anyway, what we are seeing is a flight from white. Hispanics fled from the term. Arabs are fleeing from the term.

While the descendants of various African tribes use “Black†as an identity and solidify

I think the truth is rather the opposite. Africa has nothing close to the unity of Europeans. If you are talking about elsewhere, then the descriptor has changed over the decades and is largely irrelevant to the political unity of blacks, where relevant (not in Haiti!). But it might be supposed that there is a certain political unity developed from people in the West being non-white. Witness Gopal being energized by BLM.

Actual Africans consider black Americans to be wholly American, because... well, they are, in their own way. I'm sure you get your converted SJW grifter contingent like just every other immigrant group in the US in the 21st Century, but I've met a few Nigerians in high-octane STEM, and to a man they all expressed befuddlement at the idea that they were supposed to view black Americans axiomatically as kin. Granted, these guys were highly selected based on education and IQ, but the point still stands.

(It's a deeply sad statement to make, but the inner cities of Detroit and New Orleans have higher rates of functional illiteracy than most of sub-Saharan Africa now. How's that for a kick in the nads?)

This should all be blatantly obvious: of course they have even less of a connection to Africa than white Americans do to Europe given the time they've been here and the circumstances of arrival. It speaks volumes about modern historical orthodoxy that this is even vaguely controversial.

Its not a forced situation but a deliberate move away from the declining western economies towards the growing economies of the rest of the world, where the growth and money is. And many other countries are moving away from the West too, for example right now China is becoming the biggest trading partner for most of the countries around the world. Sanctions matter less and less by every day as these are sanctions by declining countries that matter less and less in the global economy. And are being rejected by “allied” countries such as Israel, Turkey or South Korea. Or Germany exporting whole factories into Russia to bypass them.

This was the only version of the story I could find and you didn’t really elaborate, so the actual story would be nice.

The neighbors were of course deeply unhappy about this, and I think Fox’s thinking was that if Richard could make it all really pretty, the neighbors might be more receptive.

So one day Richard–and I, acting as his recording secretary basically–went to have lunch at the Fox Commissary with David Handelman, who was Fox’s head counsel and a surprisingly nice man, to discuss the whole Century City aspect of the thing. On our way to the table, up pops Mel Brooks to shake Richard’s hand. “I was just at a house you did on Fire Island maybe ten days ago! It was GREAT!!” Etc. etc.

The pleasantries go on for a minute, with Brooks also greeting Handelman, and finally we turn to go to our table as Mel Brooks is sitting down. But half a second later, Brooks realizes he’s ignored me and springs back up and holds his hand out to introduce himself to the straggling young flunky. “Hi! I’m Mel! I didn’t get your name!”

I thought it was a really un-Hollywood move on his part, and an indication that he was actually a good guy. And I haven’t forgotten it.

Any truth to the rumor that the bodies of numerous Filipina girls are buried somewhere on the Getty property?

    https://www.crazydaysandnights.net/2018/07/blind-items-revealed-14_5.html

Slightly over three decades ago, there was a meeting on a yacht in the Med. A very important meeting. Things were dire and the whole escapade was crumbling and was going to leave some very important people with some very public egg on their face.

Attending the meeting were several world leaders, two of the richest people in the world, and several others, all of whom who were being catered to by a group of teens from the country of one of the world leaders.

The focus of their discussion was half a world away. To see what they were discussing, we need to take a step back.

In the late 1960's and early 1970's, G (J. Paul Getty Sr.) was one of the wealthiest men in the world. Although he could have any one in the world to have sex with, G enjoyed the company of young girls. Very very young girls. Under 10 was his preferred.

He imported the girls from a foreign country and housed them in the annex of his home which he reached via an underground tunnel. The girls were supplied by a very close friend of his who we will call M (Ferdinand Marcos). It turns out M also had a love of young girls and provided them to other people like G all over the world.

In return, M was protected in power and also enriched himself personally from these men who gave him gifts of not only cash, but also paintings by the masters and so much more. They also arranged for other governments to prop his up in the face of rebellion.

When G died, things started to go downhill. Although one of his children (J) (J. Paul Getty Jr.) also was a fan of the young girls and availed himself frequently, he also ended up taking things too far and some of the girls ended up dead. J also had some big drug issues and was not of the same caliber connection wise that G had been. J was also under a great deal of pressure from siblings and bankers to do something with the annex to the house. The same annex where the young girls were located.

Fast forward a few years. The same men in power like G that had helped prop up M were all dying off. They were being replaced by other men who had their focus on other areas of the world. All too often they didn't care about young girls and had other vices that they could fulfill from other dictators. The problem was what to do about all the girls all over the world that were in place or dead? That was the purpose of the meeting on the yacht.

What was decided was everyone who had a girl in their possession could keep them in place but could never let them go. If they wanted them killed, they could send them to J and he would make arrangements to kill them. In total, about 50 of these girls were killed. They were dumped beneath the foundation of an addition to the annex which was built several miles from the original annex.

If you ever want to know why a hit was never put out on the spouse of M (Imelda) or any of his own kids it is because that meeting on the yacht was recorded both via audio and video and M made sure that everyone knows she has a copy of them. She also made it known that if she, or her kids were to die, that the recordings would be released. M's spouse is very old so people are worried that she has not made any plans to not release it when she dies. Apparently this recording discusses many world leaders and titans of industry who all had their own young boys or girls from this country they abused.

Oh, and just so you know, this will be revealed. This is too important to not be revealed.

    G: J. Paul Getty
M: Ferdinand Marcos (President of the Philippines) (art collection)
    Spouse: Imelda Marcos

As we have balkanized and destroyed the Arab nations of the middle east to fulfill the Yinnon Plan for Greater Israel and in the process killed hundreds of thousands and driven out millions more, do you expect the Arab people to thank us for the plunder and destruction. There were no WMD’s and Saddam was never a threat, in fact he was an ally. But the Jews needed him out. Same with Geddafi. The most prosperous country in Africa destroyed for Israel’s benefit. The Jews black proxy warriors in S.A. are doing the Jews work there.

The Arabs did not instigate the world wars. They did not overthrow Russia, killing 30 million while they plundered the country along with the annexation of eastern Europe. China didn’t fall into communist hands with massive U.S. help because of Arab actions. Nor are they driving the “War on Terror” for the Zionist agenda.

The Arabs did not found the Frankfurt school to subvert western culture and were not the driving force that has inflicted the racial unrest, hate laws, antisemitism legislation and anti white culture. The Arabs did not push the feminist agenda to destroy the family unit or the me too mov. or the radical homosexual agenda. The Arabs did not push the 1965 Immigration act through congress. I don’t believe Jacob Javits was an Arab. The Muslims don’t own all of the MSM or all of the major film studios. Does Trump say he is the “greatest friend the Arabs ever had in the White House.” Or when Pelosi said that “one thing is certain, if the capitol should crumble we would defend the Arabs.” I don’t think so. There are some Arabs that are proxy warriors for the Jews just as the negroes have been since Jew banker Jacob Schiff founded the NAACP in 1907. The Jews were the instigators behind the so called civil rights movement not the arabs. The current 6 trillion dollar heist for Wall St. under cover of the fake virus was not engineered by Arabs but the same Sovereign Global bankers that congress is servant too and pulled a similar “bailout” for the super rich in 08. Also Note that the massive influx of immigrants into Europe is the fulfillment of the Warburg (I don’t think they were Arabs) Kelergi plan for the Pan European Union started in 1923.

100% modernist propaganda. In the present world there is an almost perfect inverse correlation between how “traditionalist” a society is and how much “cultural imperialism” it practices.

This holds up historically as well in many places. Off the top of my head, Athens was far more culturally imperialistic (and Greco-chauvinistic for that matter) than their evil Spartan adversaries; absolutist Bourbon France established fantastic relations with Native Americans, largely supporting their traditional society, while the progressive parliamentarian British which Voltaire so admired were busy genociding them.

Just as with the issue of censorship, modern democrats are masters of projection here.

I'm not sure we're really in disagreement here. I certainly agree that the modern western secular culture has become horrifyingly repressive and imperialistic. And I do agree that, whatever faults they may have, traditional societies in the modern world are very non-imperialistic. For the most part they really do not seek to impose their values on outsiders.

Where we perhaps differ is that I do think that traditional societies tend to be very repressive in the way they impose conformity on insiders.

Because, from an evolutionary standpoint, being Western-level “fat†is unnatural and therefore unattractive. (See hunter-gathers: even with an abundant food supply you can’t get fat eating only deer, kale and the occasional in-season wild fruit).

Men don’t like model-skinny either. I imagine it looks even worse in person. The modeling and entertainment industry skews heavily gay, so you get thin women with masculine features and bodies (ie big jaws and small hips). As an example, Google Gisele Bundchen and her sister. The former “super model†looks like a tranny (big jaw, small hips) while the aforementioned normal Bundchen looks like a regular attractive woman (small feminine features and child bearing hips).

I think the non-brainwashed preference has to be for evolutionarily normal female body fat levels (20-30%) and feminine facial features and physique. Not anorexic tranny or artificially fattened up on Twinkies and McDonalds.

    Well said AJ.

Women are attractive when they look like they are *ready* to get pregnant, carry a baby to term and nurse it.

Not when they look like they are already pregnant or look like boys--that's the influence of the media's queers.

    ~~

(Giesle has Germanic look and good facial symmetry, but mediocre curves--too straight a body--and a not terribly feminine face. A quick google--my preference would be a dip into several of her sisters. Less work, more fun.

Never understood why Tom Brady settled for this just because she's a "super model". The dude makes plenty of money and could have a spectacular, smart, sweet girl, who didn't have her own career, who'd have given him five or six kids and made him much more reproductively successful. On the other hand she isn't Megan Markle, LOL.)

    Replies: @Chrisnonymous

A lot of supermodels are not much better-looking than other women you can see on the street, assuming your preference for that kind of face/body. So, I have always assumed that the supermodel/runway model success is influenced by some interpersonal factor of charisma that doesn’t translate into photos–something that you can detect only in conversation or in person. That would explain why Brady likes her. Plus, she’s not digging for gold or overawed by his fame. Plus, his faggy diet indicates some other weird personality quirk he has.

I’d like to see people have the option of living in a traditional society, I just don’t think many people would choose that option. And as a solution to out current societal problems it’s a complete non-starter.

Mostly agree, but I don’t mean no technology like the Amish – I mean orthodox Jews, religious Muslims, and some Christians. These communities are reasonably large, and I know from personal experience that they are deeply satisfying to a decent amount of people.

But yes, most people are not going to opt for this today – and the idea that they should be forced to is terrible.

Traditional societies often become very repressive and restrictive, that’s undeniable, but then we are now seeing that secular modern societies can become so as well.

There have been eras and times where traditional societies have been fairly tolerant and accepting of eccentrics – I would have made a pretty decent Sufi pretending to believe in mainstream Islam while secretly having values significantly different from mainstream (and all significant Sufi figures held significantly different values from mainstream Islam), and I could have made a pretty happy Christian mystic mouthing the pieties while believing with Eckhardt in a view of the world in many ways quite different from mainstream Christianity, and I could – and do – make a fairly eccentric Jew, inspired more by the Kabbalah than Talmudic Judaism.

And then the traditional societies of Asia always provided an escape from social convention.

The point is – I am not sure the wrapping matters so much. Modern secular societies are becoming repressive – traditional societies have often tolerated – even approved – escapes from social convention.

Which means any calls for a return to tradition are largely beside the point – and in today’s climate, are likely just calls for a return to a different kind of repressive society. In that much I agree with you.

I am quite sure that Intelligent Dasein, for all his quirky insights, would create a harshly repressive and conformist society that would be a nightmare for me to live in – and Jews and eccentrics in general.

So instead of focusing on the wrapping, on the idiom in which one expresses oneself, I focus on the psychological type. I have found that people use the conventional language of their time – but what matters is the underlying psychological attitude, which is often just an old attitude expressed in modern idiom. (IQ and HBD is just old school racism updated in sciency language).

Which means I actually agree with you largely – calls to return to tradition are pointless. Let us use current idioms and language to fashion a society based on timeless principles of mutual accommodation – traditionalist people should be allowed to self-organize, but no single psychological type should completely dominate, although inequality is inevitable.

Of course, such an arrangement can never last – but they are worth trying to build, and human history means constantly building up and destroying this arrangement.

So, men who found big eyes and .7 h/w attractive and worth pursuing were more likely to sire offspring -- who, of course because preferences are genetically controlled, also like such things.

The French police were told they could not use chokeholds during arrest or pin a suspect to the ground by pressing on their chest.

On Thursday, policemen across France threw their handcuffs to the ground in a symbolic gesture.

I believe the neck restraint that the MPD and other departments adopted was in response to the perceived lethality of chokeholds and other more lethal measures.

Past some degree of hobbling police, they will no longer have the ability to effectively carry out arrests. Of course this is what BLM wants. But it is only what AWFL wine sippers and their simps think they want.

Anyone who believes that St. Fentanyl had the right to actively resist arrest or that the police should have not continued attempting to restrain him is an anarchist. If one believes that suspected violent felons have a right to obstruct the police in any part of carrying out the arrest process, from questioning to booking, then they are anarchists. A guard dog with no teeth is just a pet. Police without the tools required to make arrests aren’t real police.

I imagine the threshold beyond which hamstringing the police will lead to ineffective arrest procedures, where felons can tie up multiple officers for hours or even elude capture entirely, is close at hand.

Making a fetish of IQ is just another way of throwing up your hands and saying nothing can be done. I remember when I worked in a prison I noticed the blacks I saw on average smarter than the average white. Then I look up their IQs (everyone is tested) and the scores didn't correspond well with actual intelligence. It occurred to me that if you are illiterate, and antisocial, it would be almost impossible to accurately gauge intelligence. If your numbers were right , there would be millions of blacks walking around with 65 IQs, not able to find their way home much less break into your house.

    Replies: @Roost

I’m interested, based on your experience, why did black prisoners seem more intelligent than white ones? There are different components that make up intelligence, such as mathematical ability or spatial reasoning, that would be hard to properly assess in most scenarios. Also, you said that everyone’s cognitive ability is tested in prison, do you remember any more details as to the exact results by each respective race?

You did mention that black prisoners might under-perform due to illiteracy and antisocial behavior. Although they are less educated than average, they are unlikely illiterate as the U.S. (assuming you live there) has a literacy rate of 99 percent. I do not know what effect antisociality would have on your IQ score, perhaps you can argue that antisocial types are unlikely to be concerned with or exert effort in testing they deem useless. But the prison population is, of course, unrepresentative, and selects for violent, impulsive, antisocial types of all races. I do not see a compelling reason why the IQ scores would be inaccurate.

I am not aware of any representative black population outscoring a representative white population in cognitive ability; this is consistent with testing across the board, in employment, sports (Wonderlic results), education (SAT, GRE, etc.), and more, all resulting in the same outcome: whites outperforming blacks. And these tests are not arbitrary; they are predictive of performance and success in your job, school of choice, etc.

Also, it is not about a fetish of IQ, although I can see how people’s obsession with it can be viewed that way. This is one of the most important questions of our time: are there racial differences that contribute to observed life outcomes, or is entirely a byproduct of the environment? Literally the foundation of some ideologies are contingent on this idea that people are equal in every way that matters; that yes, the races differ in physical appearance, but on socially valued traits like intelligence, we all have the exact same capacity. But the truth is, this is still not resolved and there is a lot of the evidence to suggest that things might be a little hard to swallow.

Imagine if it were true: reality does not adhere to our abstract concepts of equality and there are observable, significant genetic differences in cognitive ability. What then? That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t fight for a better society, but if the goal were to equalize the life outcomes of all the races, this scientific knowledge would explain why certain unequal societal outcomes seem so intractable to change.

Hopefully we will have the answer one day, but as of now, no one knows for sure. Not like the truth matters to them anyway.

    @Roost

First you have to understand that government statistics for literacy.are bullshit. They are trying to cover up for the failures of government schools. The same kind of dumbing down that we see on higher ends is even more extreme on lower ends. It was my job to administer written assignments. Not one in 10 could compete it competently.
All I can say ,using completely anecdotal evidence, was that I could give your average black inmate a complex task and if didn't involve academics, he could complete it. This is especially true if there was a reward to completing that task. Most whites would require more explaining and they would still mess up even a simple cleaning job until repetition had made it habit.
But it went deeper than that. There was a level of insight in most black inmates than was often lacking in their white counterparts. I would often hear things " Obama ain't gonna do nothing for me" or "You know Trayvon was doing lean" in which they were wiser than society at large. In Ideas Have Consequences Richard Weaver notes the blacks often have a greater understanding of moral ambiguity. I definitely noticed that, while at the same time whites were more black and white thinkers.
The point isn't whether blacks can score identical number sof whatever IQ test you want. The question is can they be productive members of society in greater numbers then they are now. I think they can but frankly it has to start with leaving the same victimhood BLM narrative that Democrats continue to push. Just line in the old days, Democrats are holding Blacks hostage. And the black communities are too fragile to hold up under such "assistance "

While the empire is enjoying its High Noon of prosperity, all these people are proud and glad to be imperial citizens. But when decline sets in, it is extraordinary how the memory of ancient wars, perhaps centuries before, is suddenly revived, and local or provincial movements appear demanding secession or independence. Some day this phenomenon will doubtless appear in the now apparently monolithic and authoritarian Soviet empire. It is amazing for how long such provincial sentiments can survive.

Easy to imagine execs at the time saying what they would say about the Seinfeld pilot thirty years later: "Too New York, too Jewish." Reiner was much better as the egomaniacal star (originally in a never-seen, voice-only gimmick) than an as the suburban family man.

Your graphs don’t capture the class-based nature (segmentation) of partner desirability. For example, according to the right graph, black men are more desirable than Hispanic or Asian men, but intermarriage rates say otherwise. Take a look on any major university campus, you’ll see that HMWF or AMWF pairings are far more common than BMWF pairings, even accounting for demographic composition. Indeed, the latter is overwhelmingly a lower socio-economic profile phenomenon.

In reality, upscale white women and high status Asian men are quite desirable... because upscale/high status people are desirable, period. And whites and Asians make up most of the high status segment of the population in the U.S. And contrary to the outward negrophila sweeping the country today, black men and women are largely deemed as disfavored partners by non-blacks, male and female.

Cognitive and economic assortative mating means that upscale whites and Asians pair with one another at high rates, downscale whites and Hispanics do so, and only very low end whites, Hispanics, and Asians do so with blacks, excepting very few high quality blacks.

They were the consumate hunter-gatherers, no agriculture, and the men liked their women plump. Seal and whale loaded with fat and you get plump.

Eskimos were chronically under intense Malthusian pressure–at risk of starvation.

In such a culture, the evolved preference will be for women who are currently fattened up, as they’ll be much more likely to make it through the next nine months even if the seal hunt or the whale hunt or the salmon run fails.

In more settled stable environments even if there’s malthusian pressure, the male preference will be for women who are simply adequately nourished and have the normal curves/fat reserves that indicate they are sexually mature and likely to carry a baby to term.

Another Dad, Fruechen mentions often that starvation was common in the Artic and sadly mothers would strangle their children rather than see them starve. Also, when food was plentiful they would gorge themselves.
  • Like most Westerners, I got to know Akira Kurosawa through his classic samurai films: Seven Samurai, Throne of Blood, The Hidden Fortress, Yojimbo, Sanjuro, Kagemusha, and Ran. Thus I was surprised to discover that fully half of his thirty films are actually set in contemporary Japan over the stretch of Kurosawa’s long lifetime (1910–1998). High...

It seemed obvious to me that the other executives at National Shoes must have masterminded the kidnapping so that Mifune would have no money to make a move. I thought the cops were foolish to not pursue that angle.

But as the execs explain when the police question them, they came to Gondo’s house to hatch a plot against the ‘old man’. They came to work with him. They didn’t expect Gondo to be so hot-headed and defiant. Also, they were in the dark about Gondo’s secret maneuvers against them. So, Gondo doesn’t suspect them. Also, the police arrive after the row between Gondo and execs, and only gradually do they learn about the tension at the company, especially due to the flunky with second thoughts about the check.

My problem with the film is that the execs are reduced to paper-thin scoundrels to make Gondo so much better. It would have been more interesting if the execs were presented as men with reasonable motives of their own. After all, they are selling women’s shoes, the kind women don’t intend to wear for too long. Shoddy boots are a bad idea, but shoddy women’s shoes make sense given women’s shoes change with fashion, which changes every year. Also, there is the high-end market and low-end market. A lot of people buy stuff that they don’t intend to keep for long.

Indeed, Gondo and others could have compromised. Make high-end quality shoes at higher price and make cheap shoes for low-end market. Why not both? It’s like Hollywood made both A movies and B movies.

In RAN, while the two older sons are nasty characters, we can at least understand their motives that aren’t purely scoundrel-ous. They aren’t merely being nasty and saying, ‘we are a**holes’. The oldest son isn’t very bright and has only position to stake his authority. The second son is smart and feels the power should really go to him. They are bad but understandable. In contrast, the execs in HIGH AND LOW are merely shallow jerks, and that’s about it. Now, there are real people are little more than shallow jerks, but in HIGH AND LOW, such characterizations seem too easy a way to make Gondo look good by contrast. There’s an element of cheap shot.

The great thing about SEVEN SAMURAI is that even the most craven and despicable peasant, the father of the pretty girl, is utterly understandable on human terms. And he’s not entirely wrong in his arguments and in his feelings. HIGH AND LOW doesn’t reach so high.

  • This is like the scene in Close Encounters of the Third Kind where an obsessive Richard Dreyfuss carves Devils Tower out of mashed potatoes: I'm sure a lot of Democratic insiders have been thinking, "Well, if Biden has a really bad Senior Moment, we can just dump him and replace him with a tested leader...
  • That would be Fake News on your part.

    How about this:

The arrogance of people who think they can stop a virus that is already endemic, without a vaccine, astonishes me.

  • As I've been pointing out for lo these many years now, progressives have lost all interest in recent history (roughly post-Emmett Till) and now obsess about the increasingly distant past. For example, today when yet another delegation of Mostly Peaceful Protesters broke through a gate and onto private property in St. Louis, a rich couple...

Well, well, well, the rifle toting NRA survivalist MEN OF UNZ who fantasize that someday they’ll fight off the ravening black hordes who invade their suburb or farm with their gun collection are now criticizing a White couple who did exactly that.

And here I thought it was only young White women victimized by black criminals the MEN OF UNZ hated. Now you even hate and criticize a White man who did exactly what all of you have been posting and fantasizing about for decades.

And if the rioters had invaded their home and injured or killed them; we all know what the comments would have been.

“ should have had guns should have had this or that shotgun or rifleâ€. “ Should carry a handgun even in the house and yard. “â€Keep guns in each bedroom kitchen and next to all doors. “

Then lots of advice about sniping and shooting situational awareness, military combat tactics, including blast away while they’re on the public sidewalk and be charged with murder.

This is 2 Whites, one a man not a White woman you guys hate so much who did exactly what you guys fantasize about and it’s nothing but nitpicking criticism and even about their house and yard

Maybe you all work for Soros. I’m the only pro White commenter on the site.

Off Topic. For those of you who advocate retreat to rural areas to get away from blacks here’s an article in the latest issue of communist magazine Mother Jones. “ Whites own 98% of rural land. black farmers demand their shareâ€

That could get really bad. BLM DNC and the rest could send busloads of antifa and BLM to farms kill the family and declare the farm a black farm. Often in rural areas the nearest cop is 40 miles away. The south, Illinois Wisconsin and Minnesota would be invaded first. They have big black liberal cities and farms. Plenty of blacks and liberals to attack the farmers.

And then what, especially on a livestock farm? Hilarity would ensue. They’d be afraid of the cows pigs sheep and even the chickens Imagine blacks and antifa attempting to operate the machinery in a milking barn. Cows are very placid and docile until their udders start hurting then they get real ornery. Lots of farmers have their own boars. Blacks are afraid of all animals

The article shows these riots are well organized events directed by the elite. I can’t remember any riots that went on more than about 5 days. Or any riots that invaded small towns like and suburbs like Santa Monica and Beverly Hills Ca.

And now the communist rag Mother Jones advocates driving Whites off their farms. S Africa Zimbabwe every African country The name should be changed to Harriet Tubman or Kashima Sawant because Mother Jones was White and horror of horrors was a labor union organizer for the loathsome deplorable White working class.

Wallow in your hatred and disdain of the McCloskeys, guys. And continue your fantasies about using your rifles to defend your homes against the ravening hordes.

I did put black criminals in jail.

You guys live 100 miles from the nearest black criminal, own a few guns, fantasize about shooting down black criminals But a White couple does what you all fantasize about and you just brag how you would have done it better.
