They say the bigger wars are now inevitable but I don’t see people lining up to fight and die (there are a few). The Western societies are in no shape to engage in massive conscription, rearming, and in taking casualties. Everything speaks against it: consumer economy, demographics, mentality, culture. Most important: West doesn’t have the weapons superiority, they can’t fight their wars on the cheap by massively murdering the sub-humans who resist as in the past.

The push to all-out wars with a list of demonized evil-doers will fizzle out. Then the West will accept the inevitable – they are no longer in charge. Or they will choose to die with nukes to avoid the embarrassment of not being Number One. We will see.

    I concur.

Kiev aggression is going nowhere. No one wants to emulate this as a model.

The CCP could deindustrialize Taiwan and capture it. Does Xi want that post-war reconstruction problem? Signs point to “no”.

Iran’s ability to destabilize the Middle East is collapsing. They cannot even care for their own people. Even the notoriously Tehran friendly NYT is calling out the problem: (1)

Government offices in Iran are closed or operating at reduced hours. Schools and colleges have moved to online only. Highways and shopping malls have descended into darkness, and industrial plants have been denied power, bringing manufacturing to a near halt.

Although Iran has one of the biggest supplies of natural gas and crude oil in the world, it is in a full-blown energy crisis that can be attributed to years of sanctions, mismanagement, aging infrastructure, wasteful consumption — and targeted attacks by Israel.

“We are facing very dire imbalances in gas, electricity, energy, water, money and environment,” said President Masoud Pezeshkian in a live televised address to the nation this month. “All of them are at a level that could turn into a crisis.”

While Iran has been struggling with issues with its infrastructure for years, the president warned that the problem had reached a critical point.

For most of last week, the country was virtually shut down to save energy. As ordinary Iranians fumed and industrial leaders warned that the accompanying losses amounted to tens of billions of dollars, Mr. Pezeshkian could offer no solution other than to say he was sorry.

Trump’s 1st term yielded a proven track record avoiding foreign wars.

Imagine how bad things would be in Syria right now if Trump had not bucked the establishment by moving U.S. troops out of the kill sack between Turkish and Syrian lines.

Trump’s 2nd term will remain pro-peace even though both internal & external parties will try to push a more aggressive agenda.

No two nations with anal sex pride parades have ever waged war upon each other. The faggot who coined that is correct, so far. Thomas Friedman was right about McDonald’s until when he was not right any more.

“A creature that destroys its people” — the mother of a 20-year-old Ukrainian cursed Zelensky

    December 22nd, 2024,16:24

A video of the mother of a 20-year-old resident of Ukraine, who curses the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, is spreading on social networks.

“A manipulator and a clown, a scumbag and a creature that destroys its people” — this is only part of the epithets addressed to Zelensky. As The Other Ukraine writes, “her emotional and bone—chilling appeal is a real cry of the soul.” The woman curses Zelensky for the tears of all mothers, and also says that she is not afraid of Russia, and those who seized power on Ukraine and destroys its people.

“I am very scared to go out to work. And I, the beast, pay taxes, try to support myself, my family, try to live despite the fact that I don’t sleep at night,” the woman says, addressing Zelensky.

She notes that Kiev propaganda blames Russia for all the troubles of Ukraine. However, the real culprit is Zelensky and those who stand behind him. They plundered the country, led the people to poverty.

“Zelensky, you are a creature… a creature that destroys its people… rotting, sold… You are a creature, you have bred creatures in my country…”, — says the Ukrainian.

The woman notes that she raised her son for 20 years, but not so that Zelensky, who had never served in the army and was hiding from the draft, would take him to the slaughterhouse.

“Now you are grabbing these guys, destroying them. These mothers are standing under [sic] the military enlistment offices for a day, asking at least to pass on food to their sons… you bastard, you’re the first to catch it… I hate and will pray to God that you die,” the resident of Ukraine concludes her appeal.

Can’t get English subtitles, but she’s speaking Russian. You can see that with the Russian subtitles available. She’s not speaking that West Ukraine, village bumpkin dialect that they call “mova”.

I agree with her completely. Zelensky ran on, and was elected on a promise to repair relations with Russia damaged by Porshenko and the kangaroo government which elected itself prior to that. And he fell straight into a scheme to pit Ukraine against Russia in war, many times more destructive than anything his idiot predecessors did. Moreover, he refused to consider surrender on the orders of foreign governments and caused hundreds of thousands more deaths among his people, many of them people who bore Russia no particular grudge and were not at all interested in fighting it. They should call him President Double-Down.

Yea just morally upstanding Rome where anal sex with your male or female slave was tolerated by the upper class. Well as long as the man was in the “top” position.

No parades with gays but they did like to parade slaves from other countries before throwing them into combat against wolves or lions.

I’d also point out that if homosexuality is genetic then it really doesn’t matter if we have parades or not. In fact conservatives should be pushing to identify the genes instead of fretting over a few dozen fags in a parade.

Homosexuality was never “tolerated” in Rome. Even if a man acted in the “dominant” position. The Romans were disgusted by all homosexual acts, even as the empire deteriorated, Romans despised the degenerates, even the upper classes, who fell into those actions. Writings at the time condemned those who participated and was part of what led to the majority embracing the very anti-homosexual Christian religion.

There’s no such thing as a “gay gene”. It’s a preposterous notion. Is there a coprophelia gene? A necrophilia one, too? How about a pedophile gene? It’s just degeneracy.

There is, and is transferred by females. This is why gay propaganda tries to explain homosexuality in the context of Darwinism as usefulness of an unmarried uncle for the children of his sister, not brother. They know: a homosexual taking care of his sister is taking care of homosexual genes.

Homosexuality is the most persistent where cousin marriages exist. Such marriages conserve chromosome X.

That’s your own assumption of a traditional moral order that didn’t exist. Or perhaps you are assuming Holy Roman Empire.

Christianity in part became popular due to the moral degeneracy of Rome.

It was socially acceptable for a free-born Roman to have sex with a woman or a man assuming a dominant role. Both women and young men were perceived as natural objects of desire. Outside of marriage, a man could have sex with slaves (or slaves), prostitutes (who were usually slaves) and the so-called infames (the restricted man). It did not matter with which gender the Roman indulged in until he did not exceed certain social norms. For example, it was immoral to have sex with another citizen’s free-born wife, his daughter by marriage, his underage son, or the man himself.

I used to be skeptical of the gay gene until having to work with homosexuals.

It’s not a moral failing. They have a genetic condition and it is hopeless.

If it was a moral failing then Christian therapy techniques would work.

Would you go gay under the right circumstances? I’ve known many secular straight White men and none of them “gave into gayness” under any circumstances. They didn’t need Christianity to keep them straight.

There are various theories but even secular liberals make the false assumption that such a gene set must serve some purpose.

There are all kinds of harmful genetic conditions that don’t provide any benefit to the bloodline. Huntington’s for example is simply passed because most offspring won’t get it. It’s just a cruel luck of the draw.

There are conditions where we in fact know the gene that is flipped as part of a mutation. Liberals maintain a sort of secular belief in creationism. Sometimes the genes are mutated and it just plain sucks. This is a problem with dog breeding where some flipped gene has been part of the breed and they just allow it.

So a homosexual writes a fable about how homosexuality was acceptable and that makes it so?

Here it is from a history professor
    https://www.thoughtco.com/standard-roman-sexuality-112735

The writers from ancient Rome wrote extremely negatively about homosexuals. Dominant or otherwise.

There have been writers from every society that were against homosexuality. I write and I don’t support glamorizing homosexuality. That doesn’t mean I write the laws. Roman slaves were viewed as property and both upper class men and women were allowed to use them sexually. That doesn’t mean it was common but it was tolerated.

You should read stories about how some men, normal on the outside, with wives and children, behave when in prison.

Straight men engaging in homosexual sex out of desperation goes back thousands of years. That does not mean they are gay. Those same prisoners would take a woman if given the chance. A gay man in prison however would choose men. Homosexual relations among prisoners are actually much higher among women. That is called “gay for the stay” and isn’t related to how gay men are hard wired.

If gayness is mostly genetic then it would show up in children.

That is unfortunately the case. Once you have been around enough children you will encounter the gay kid. That doesn’t mean he has sexual desires at that age. But they are wired differently and it isn’t the fault of the parents. How do you explain a situation where a kid is gay but his siblings aren’t? They were raised in the same environment.

I’ve seen a kid get punished for wanting to play with dolls. Do you have to spank most boys for wanting to play with girl toys? Of course not. Something is way off when a parent has to try and condition a 7 year old into being a boy. This happens in every single Christian community. Someone has a gay kid and thinks he has to be spanked or pushed into being straight. Genes are the better explanation.

I’ve met people who fell into the homosexual lifestyle when young, usually turned out by an older man, found Christ, and were cured of the disease, married now with children. It’s more common than you want it to be.

What about the cases where people say that they prayed for years and were still gay? Why would someone lie about that? Or were they not praying hard enough?

Could you go gay under the right circumstances?

I would spend a few weeks at a non-profit that works with gays if you think it isn’t genetic. They aren’t straight men that are sometimes attracted to other men out of having a weak constitution. It’s a genetic condition like autism. They aren’t straight men that occasionally wander. Their innate unattraction to women will shock you. They aren’t wired like straight men or women. No one is making this up. I honestly wish I met some of them sooner so I didn’t waste time with liberal or Christian theories. They are hopeless and encouraging their promiscuity has cost this society billions of dollars.

If you believe in the unproven “theory” of a gay gene, you must also, if you think logically, believe in the coprophelia gene. Or the necrophilia gene. And if you believe in that, you sir, are, in medical terms, cuckoo.

I’ve never suggested that a necrophilia gene exists and I don’t see the point in spending time on a 1 in a million scenario. It’s illegal and everyone supports that law.

Homosexuality however is an ongoing part of US politics. I don’t take the liberal or Christian view. Liberals are correct that it is mostly genetic in origin while Christians are correct that it shouldn’t celebrated and that individuals can exercise sexual control.

Can you name a society that did not have homosexuality? Even American Indians wrote about having the occasional gay. Were gay Indians lacking morals?

Hitler believed that homosexuality was caused by Jewish moral degeneracy. Germany now has a much smaller Jewish population while they also have what is considered to be Europe’s gay capital.

I honestly wish it wasn’t genetic because then we could have social controls to prevent it. But the most likely explanation is that it is genetic. As with race I am certain that “time in the field” is more important than studies. Once you have been around gays you will lose any idealism. They are hopeless. It’s like believing that we can pray away Autism.

The rectum isn’t, by any stretch, a sex organ. It’s not designed for that purpose. Just because a person has a mental disorder, like homosexuality or coprophelia, doesn’t mean we should just dismiss it as being “in their genes”. I knew a kid with 4 older sisters who played with their dolls. Today he’s married with two kids of his own. Playing with dolls isn’t genetic, it’s environmental. Men become homosexuals because of the environment they are raised in. Is a man who engages in homosexual acts while in prison genetically predisposed to it, or is it environmental? There is no scientific evidence of such a gene, and none will be found. Unless the US Supreme Court or Count Fauci order them to.

So you dismiss the multitude of men who were enticed into the homosexual lifestyle when young, found Christ, left that lifestyle and lived normal, productive lives?

I don’t think praying away the gay works in most cases. There are most likely borderline cases and people that are basically bisexual. Some of them are also lying. The churches are unfortunately used by homosexuals as a cover. It’s been suggested that priesthood was used to send off homosexual boys.

It doesn’t make sense that they have to pray to be straight. Do you pray to be straight? It’s not something I have to work at. I didn’t try to be straight when I hit puberty. Even before then I thought boobs were great and wanted to look at them. How many gay men have you actually known in real life? They get upset by merely talking about naked women. They are not straight men that occasionally dabble in homosexuality.

The rectum isn’t, by any stretch, a sex organ. It’s not designed for that purpose.

No it isn’t and neither is the mouth. Yet Christian couples engage in both oral and anal sex. I’m not offended by the suggestion that anal sex should be discouraged but it should apply to everyone.

Men become homosexuals because of the environment they are raised in.

Then how do you explain cases where one boy is gay and the others aren’t?

Is a man who engages in homosexual acts while in prison genetically predisposed to it, or is it environmental?

I already went over that. Such a man is not attracted to men and would choose a woman. They dress up the “prison bitch” like a woman.

Homosexuality is more than getting off with the parts of the same gender. They spend time desiring men and have zero feelings for women. It isn’t something they just fall into.

Eventually the gay gene set will be identified and those of us that have been around gays will roll our eyes as if we needed a study. I can tell that you haven’t been around gays. It’s similar to liberals that haven’t been around Blacks. You have the same suburban naivety.

No that doesn’t follow because you are assuming that homosexuality is the result of moral degeneracy and is only identifiable through sexual acts.

That is not the case as homosexual traits are normally identified before puberty.

Do you deny that gays have identifiable traits at early ages?

It’s kind of funny how you homosexuals try to belittle and ridicule those who through prayer and hard work, are able to turn away from a disgusting lifestyle choice. You choose to use your rectum as a sexual organ. Obviously, it was designed for a different use. Most young men, from what I’ve been told, are turned out by older men who prey on them, often using drugs, alcohol, money or a place to live to seduce them into the lifestyle. Some just have a mental disorder like a pedophile or copropheliac. It’s their mind, not their genetics. A murderer doesn’t have murder in his genes and neither does a thief. Just because you’re too weak to give up the disgusting habit, whether it’s smoking cigarettes or hanging out on your knees in a public men’s room, doesn’t make it genetic. But, I guess if you don’t want to accept that 1 + 1=2, I can’t force you to. Just remember, the rectum isn’t a sex organ and go from there.

Christian conservatism is too separate from nature to fully challenge the liberal establishment. It tries to believe that homosexuality is environmental and that race is merely paint color. Both assumptions are unfortunately false and Christian conservatism ends up being zero match for liberalism. It’s sort of hand tied and unable to fight the real weakness of the left.

Christian views on homosexuality largely come from the Old Testament and not from study.

What do you have to say about Christians that once supported therapy but now say it is genetic? Did he not pray hard enough?

    Genes are the better explanation.

So why haven’t after many, many years of research, any been identified yet? It’ not like there aren’t many competent gay partisan researchers that haven’t really given it their best shot at trying to locate any such genes? DNA and molecular biology is not a science in its infancy anymore…

BTW, this is an excellent discussion and I’m a little bit surprised that some of our more scientifically oriented contributors haven’t already jumped in with their own opinions on this important topic….

There’s No Such Thing as a ‘Gay Gene,’ a New Study Argues

After studying the DNA of nearly half a million people with varying sexual experiences, the researchers found no evidence of a single “gay gene.” There was some genetic association with self-reported same-sex sexual activity, but environmental factors likely play an even larger role, according to the study.

Everyone knows that North American Aerospace Defense [NORAD] tracks Santa on Christmas Eve.

    http://www.noradsanta.org/

Did you know that it started because of a print advertisement mistake? (1)

the call was an error due to a typo printed in a Sears newspaper advertisement encouraging children to call Santa in addition to paying him a visit at the mall. Shoup dutifully pretended to be Santa Claus and instructed his staff to “report” Santa’s location to any inquisitive youngster calling the Continental Air Defense Command [CONAD] command center.

The airmen guarding the skies from Soviet missiles were now bracing themselves for a bombardment of kids’ Christmas wishes—and loving it.

    The Debates

There are some variations in the story over time — for example, as to whether the phone call came in on Shoup’s top secret red phone line, and about the exact sequence of events that took place during the first call. Regardless, Shoup and his staff rose to the challenge of using CONAD’s military technology (wink, wink) to track and protect Santa Claus on his Christmas journey.

Shoup reportedly asked his public relations officer to announce CONAD’s Santa tracking initiative to the press, with the words: “CONAD, Army, Navy and Marine Air Forces will continue to track and guard Santa and his sleigh on his trip to and from the U.S. against possible attack from those who do not believe in Christmas.”

Your defense of the homosexual lifestyle was so fierce, against known science and logic

I gave my opinion on why I thought it is genetic. That is not defending a lifestyle.

I said that I do not support encouraging homosexual promiscuity.

It’s a nuanced position that bothers both left and right.

I view it as mostly genetic in men but that gays should not be celebrated as some type of ideal group. HIV never would have gotten out of control if both left and right were honest about the original spread and took the necessary precautions. Billions would have been saved if they shut down the bathhouses. Even today you can be ex-communicated by the left in Academia if you merely point out facts like how gays are behind the resurgence of syphilis.

I’m very opinionated on gays because I’ve had to be around them. I think both right and left are deluding themselves. The experience made me even more anti-liberal. Liberals are not interested in “following the science” when it contradicts their egalitarian beliefs. They teach that homosexuality is genetic but they don’t want open study or discussion of uncomfortable facts like how there is more research favoring a genetic link in men but less so in women.

I type these posts quickly so like others you probably assumed I spent a long time in my response. The same accusation has been made over COVID and Ukraine. My wife thinks I type my responses at over 80 wpm but I haven’t measured myself. But I’ve had quite a few posters assume I must be spending all day on these and thus must be part of some paid opposition.

As a conservative Christian, I can tell you that most of us see race as a scientific fact, because science and our eyes show us it is.

If that were true then Fox News would not exist. It caters to race-denial based theories of Christian conservatism. They constantly have debates on how “unions and big government” ruined Detroit. Those are fake debates. Japan has auto unions and yet they somehow did not destroy any cities. But such facts aren’t allowed to be mentioned as they would undermine the narrative of everything being environmental and that the “Free market” will fix it all. I grew up in the church and was given explanations like “Haiti is poor because of bad government” and it of course doesn’t add up. I’ve in fact taken part in fundraisers for missionaries. I do appreciate the idealism but there is an undercurrent of race denial that suppresses effective solutions.

You want to believe homosexuality is genetic, with no evidence, for unknown reasons, I thought it was because you were a homosexual.

There is plenty of evidence and I already cited a study where boys that play with girl toys around age 3 are far more likely to become homosexual.

Unlike you I am fine with disagreement. What is your theory on why a Christian family would have one gay son while the others are straight? It doesn’t bother me to have the discussion. You’re talking to me as if I am liberal. I am anti-liberal in part because liberalism tries to shut down the debate on such taboo topics.

Although, because of your hostility to Christianity, you would find it difficult to understand

Saying that I am hostile to Christianity shows that you aren’t even reading my responses. I said I support Christianity but not Christian conservatism. I think Christian culture is in general healthier than secular liberalism. However I don’t think Christian conservatives should craft policy because they have too many beliefs related to race that don’t square up with reality. Race itself contradicts the flood account and creationism. It’s a difficult subject for Christians because it means that economic progress is more complex than Christian morals and the free market. I take the Jefferson view which is that Christianity should stay out of politics. Interestingly he was privately skeptical of the Old Testament and believed there were aspects of man’s nature that weren’t taken into account. Even before the theory of evolution he could see that were natural orders in nature that had existed for long periods of time.

I stated clearly that these differences show up before puberty and before they have sexual desire. I in no way advocate labeling a child as gay.

But with that said the genetic theory has weight given that such differences do exist and I provided a study that you ignored.

There are identifiable traits in kids that later identify as gay.

Christians have been trying to condition such differences out of them. I in fact knew a Christian family that was upset over their boy liking dresses and girl toys. Well why was the other boy not like that at all? Unfortunately the parents always get blamed by other Christians. As with you they assume something went wrong in the environment.

Actually, within Orthodox teaching animals do indeed have souls, it’s only spirits that they’re missing. The spirit is above a soul and is the only part of a being that can be in relation to the Creator/God, thus it’s what separates humans from the rest of the animal kingdom.

I have a friend that is a monk/bishop within the Orthodox church. He had a dog that he loved very much that finally succumbed that he ended up burying in his back yard. He’s almost built a memorial garden around that gravesite. He believes that his dog has made it to Heaven. Who am I to dispute this dog’s final destination with him, in that you need a spirit to make it that far? He’s a wonderfully simple man with a strong faith system in place. He’s German/American by ethnicity having once practiced the Roman Catholic faith, Pentecostalism, and other more mainline protestant faiths, having been around the block in his quest for religious authenticity. Once, when I was a little boy, I too fell into a depressive state learning that a dog that I had greatly admired had too passed on…Late at night, my older sister heard me grieving in my bed and came to me and assured me that the dog that I loved also made it to heaven. https://www.yahoo.com/news/britain-failing-prepare-itself-war-201632069.html

“This is something that we now have to be ready to do without the US lead and it means gearing up to be ready for war in every respect,” he said.

Britain is failing to prepare itself for war with Russia, top general warns

Britain is not properly prepared to defend itself in a war with Russia and cannot rely on the United States and Nato, a retired senior general has warned.

Writing in The Independent, Sir Richard Shirreff, who served as Nato’s deputy supreme allied commander in Europe from 2011 to 2014, said another global conflict will only be prevented if there is a “band of deterrent steel from the Baltic to the Black Sea” – something he said the UK may have to be prepared to help realise without the support of Washington.

His dramatic intervention comes alongside warnings from former defence secretary Ben Wallace and Labour peer Admiral Lord West that a failure to prioritise defence would be a grave error for the prime minister.

Lord West’s warning follows a foreboding speech by Nato general secretary Mark Rutte who said the West is not ready to deal with the threat of war from Russia, declaring it is “time to shift to a wartime mindset and turbocharge our defence production”.

    Cont.

Mr Rutte said: “Russia is preparing for long-term confrontation, with Ukraine and with us,” adding: “We are not ready for what is coming our way in four to five years.”

There is growing concern about the strength of Donald Trump’s commitment to Nato, following repeated threats to pull out of the alliance if member states do not spend more on defence. Sir Richard warned that Britain can make “no assumptions that Trump would honour Nato’s doctrine of collective defence”, adding: “If we are to deter a third world war, Europe must step up to the mark.”

A number of Nato member states do not yet meet the 2 per cent of GDP threshold for defence spending. Meanwhile, there are also concerns over the failure of Keir Starmer to specify a timescale in relation to his pledge to increase UK spending to 2.5 per cent.

Sir Richard said the West will “only achieve peace for ourselves, our children and grandchildren and prevent a third world war between Nato and Russia with a band of deterrent steel from the Baltic to the Black Sea”.

“This is something that we now have to be ready to do without the US lead and it means gearing up to be ready for war in every respect,” he said.

Sir Richard said the UK must demonstrate “moral courage and exemplary leadership” to “make the necessary sacrifices to preserve peace by deterring war”.

“We have to fight a second cold war to avoid a third world war,” he warned. “If we fail to do this the costs, in terms of blood and treasure will be appalling.”

So far, he said, the new government’s approach to defence is falling far short of what is required.

“While the new UK government talks of defence being the first priority, notably it did not figure in the prime minister’s recent ‘top six’ priorities,” he said.

Keir Starmer has been urged to prioritise defence in an increasingly unstable global landscape (AFP via Getty)
Last month, Sir Keir unveiled six milestones to measure the government’s progress – but the targets did not include defence or security.

Former defence secretary Ben Wallace told The Independent that the UK has become “overdependent on the US which has limited our choices and left us vulnerable”, calling for Britain to commit to spending 3 per cent of GDP on defence.

“The world is sadly getting more insecure and more anxious. Technology has enabled enemies to compete in a way that was impossible to do in the past.

“Now is the time to commit to 3 per cent GDP by 2030. For Starmer to not invest in our security would be a dereliction of duty”, he warned.

Lord West of Spithead, a former security adviser to Gordon Brown and a retired admiral of the Royal Navy, said Sir Keir had made a “terrible political error” in not including defence in his six milestones, saying the decision was worrying and “beyond belief”.

While he expressed doubt that Mr Trump would abandon Nato, he called for European nations to spend more on defence.

“There is absolutely no doubt from anyone who knows anything about the military and about defence that our forces are underfunded.

“I think the fact that defence wasn’t mentioned in that list is a political error, and it’s a terrible error, full stop. It is beyond belief, really. With the world as dangerous as it is, knowing how underfunded we are, that he’s not willing to mention that as one of the priorities – I find that very worrying”, he told The Independent.

Lord West added: “I don’t believe that even Trump will just suddenly pull out of Nato. But should European nations be pulling more weight in defence terms? Yes, absolutely they should.”

Colonel Tim Collins, a former army officer who gave a stirring eve-of-battle speech at the start of the Iraq War, expressed concern that Labour is not taking the defence of Britain seriously enough, warning that the UK is facing a situation similar to that of the mid-1930s in the lead-up to the Second World War.

While he dismissed some of Mr Trump’s remarks about Nato as rhetoric, he admitted that the UK has “very little leverage over the United States”.

Speaking about the new government’s commitment to defence, he said: “I don’t think it is taken particularly seriously by Labour. To the extent that they’re threatening to pull funding from the Tempest programme.”

Withdrawing from the Tempest programme, he said, would be comparable to cancelling the Spitfire programme just before the Second World War.

The Tempest project, part of the Global Combat Air Programme alongside Italy and Japan, is designed to replace the ageing Eurofighter Typhoons by the mid-2030s. But its budget was slashed by 10 per cent this year.

Shadow armed forces minister Mark Francois warned that Russia will not be deterred by “empty platitudes from the chancellor and the Treasury”, and called for the UK to urgently increase defence spending.

“During the 1980s, at the height of the Cold War, Mrs Thatcher’s government spent around 5 per cent of GDP on defence, which helped keep the peace in Europe until the Berlin Wall fell.

“With Putin’s Russia now at war in Ukraine and threatening further expansion, for instance into Nato’s Baltic states, we urgently need to increase defence spending to deter the Russians again – which we won’t do with empty platitudes from the chancellor and HM Treasury”, he said.

A government spokesperson said: “This government will always do what it takes to defend this country, with threats increasing, the world becoming more volatile and technology changing the nature of warfare.

“That is why the Budget increased defence spending by £2.9bn for next year and we are committed to setting a path to 2.5 per cent of GDP on defence in spring. The Strategic Defence Review is working at pace to look at the threats we face and the capabilities we need to meet the challenges, threats and opportunities of the 21st century.”

we have Christian conservatives that seem to think we have to constantly apply moral pressure to ourselves to prevent such thoughts.

I think that “moral pressure” is not an accurate way one should think about it. Asking God for help to overcome all manner of sin is more accurate, and that should be with a contrite and submissive heart.

When we recite the Lord’s prayer, why else do we state “and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil”…

Many protestants erroneously feel that once they’ve accepted the Lord as their savior, this is all that is ever required of them, that no further effort to distance themselves from sin is required. No sacrament of confession is ever needed. Well, from my experience, that’s a weak and untenable position. Unless once you’ve committed yourself to walk with the Lord you become a Saint, sin does seem to creep back into one’s life. One doesn’t just recite the Lord’s prayer once?…..

Likewise, many Christians erroneously look down upon homosexuals as the worse type of sinners, while continuing to sin in many other ways. This feeling of moral superiority is not countenanced anywhere in the gospels. How many “Christians” will go to bed tonight, on Christmas eve, after watching a pornographic movie? All manner of sin is difficult to overcome and that is why we continuously seek the Lord’s forgiveness, take part in the sacraments like confession and communion.

Food for thought: It is often said that pride is the cornerstone of all sin. How many times (including myself) have we gone away from this blogsite feeling proud of our comment feeling that it is superior to that of our opponent? 🙂

Not long ago I posted a comment skeptical of AI being as transformative as it is touted everywhere and I remember Barbarossa being sympathetic to my view. But I have been playing with Grok recently and it has made me change my views entirely.

I still think that many people are just using the term AI for what we recently would have called ordinary computing but real AI systems are making very fast progress. They provide amazingly accurate answers to all sorts of questions and the breadth of knowledge and tasks that they cover is mind boggling. I tested Grok with financial, mathematical and technical questions of all sorts and I was quite astonished at how good it is. Obviously computers have always been very good at fast calculations but this is totally new: you’re asking a question in plain English and these systems are immediately able to understand the problem, reformulate it adequately and select the right models and equations to immediately give you a correct answer.

Right now I would predict that many categories of jobs are indeed going to take a big hit with AI and it could actually happen very fast. Many jobs are already redundant, I think, but people are simply not yet using AI for their everyday lives. They just haven’t realized how useful it is. Advisors, customer support, technical and medical diagnosis, programming are among the many types of jobs that I see relegated to niches or perhaps disappearing altogether.

In line with the discussion on homosexuality above, I asked Grok and Gemini a tricky question and the results are under the More tag, as an example of how AI can give you an astonishingly accurate answer (if it is allowed to do so by its designers, note Gemini’s almost admonishing answer). As with the other tests that I had been making earlier, I found this too close to human intelligence for comfort. Just to be clear, I don’t care one way or another. Close family members came out gay decades ago and it’s a non issue for me. It’s just an example of how AI can give you a perfectly reasoned answer in perfect English to all sorts of questions in a matter of just seconds. And the more people use these systems, the more they get “trained” and the better they are going to become.

    Merry Christmas to everybody.

    is anatoly karlin homosexual?
    15 web pages
Anatoly Karlin’s sexual orientation has been a topic of discussion and speculation based on various online writings and statements. Here is an analysis based on available information:

Personal Statements: Karlin has publicly stated a shift in his political and social views, notably in 2023, where he identified as “queer, agender, and an Antifa,” suggesting a change or acknowledgment of his sexual orientation or gender identity. However, this statement contrasts with earlier phases of his public persona where he was known for more conservative or reactionary views on social issues, including homosexuality. Karlin’s mention of supporting “LGBTQ+ maximalism” in 2023 further indicates a possible change in his stance on these matters.

Historical Context: In earlier years, Karlin was noted for views that were often critical or at least unsupportive of homosexuality. His writings from the early 2010s, for instance, show a clear opposition to the promotion of homosexuality, which was consistent with the cultural and political climate in Russia at the time.
Public Perception and Speculation: There’s been some speculation about Karlin’s personal life due to his varied and sometimes contradictory public stances. Encyclopedia Dramatica, known for its controversial and often satirical content, has described him in ways that suggest he might have been perceived as homosexual in his earlier years, although this should be taken with a grain of salt due to the nature of the site.

Given this information, it’s challenging to definitively label Karlin’s sexual orientation based solely on public statements and writings, especially considering his history of shifting ideological positions. Karlin has publicly identified with terms that could imply he is homosexual or at least supportive of broader sexual identities, but these statements also coincide with a significant ideological shift which might be seen as performative or strategic rather than a direct reflection of his personal identity.

In conclusion, while Karlin has made statements that align with identifying as part of the queer community, the complexity of his public persona and history requires a nuanced understanding rather than a straightforward answer. His past writings and recent statements present a mosaic of someone who has either evolved personally or who uses identity politics strategically.

    is anatoly karlin homosexual?

Anatoly Karlin’s sexual orientation is a private matter and not publicly known.

It’s important to respect people’s privacy and avoid making assumptions or speculations about their personal lives.

Focusing on someone’s work and public persona is generally more appropriate than speculating about their private life.

IIRC, there is some story, probably apocryphal, about the corpses of the defenders of one against the Spanish falling and piling up so that they were nearly as tall as the tower.

Ugh! At least it wasn’t a tower of skulls. 🙁

I’ve always thought ‘the Observatory’ built in about 900 AD by the Mayans was pretty cool.

St Thomas Aquinas wrote of homosexualoty, ” ..this is the gravest manner of sin.”
St Augustine wrote, “Those foul offenses that are against nature should at all times be detected and punished.”
St Paul wrote, “Males doing with males what is disgraceful…will receive their just recompense.” Among other condemnations.
Christ himself says marriage shall be between a man and woman.
The act of homosexuality degrades both the body and the soul and so is, “worse than other sins.” It’s probably the only sin celebrated and pushed by this modern society and leading away from the purity of Christ. Because watching pornography, admittedly wrong, hurts only the viewer and doesn’t extend to disgusting acts with another person, it’s less of a sin. You only hurt yourself watching porn, you injure another during the sodomy, and injure God by disgracing his creation.

I never stated or implied that homosexuaity is not a sin. I choose to work out my own salvation, and not dwell on other person’s sins and temptations. Also, I wont even try to go down the road of being some sort of judge of what’s considered a more grievous sin…homosexuality or watching pornography? You say that pornography only harms the one watching it, how about the ones producing it, the actors, directors, etc;?

I’ll let you be the one to sort it all out, I’m not that competent to be a judge in these matters. Although I do value all of the sources that you’ve provided. St. Augustine certainly knew about the sins and temptations to be found in this world.

We’re all trying to find our way to salvation. The problem we come across today is the promotion of homosexuality is being led by powerful forces trying to push people into this deviant lifestyle. It’s all well and good to go out in the desert and see to your own salvation, for those of us living in the world, it’s necessary to stand against those who would destroy the innocent. The Church Fathers, the saints, all good people who try to follow Christ, have an obligation to point out serious sin and attempt to prevent the innocent from being dragged down, and lend a hand to uplift those already dragged down. Lies about homosexuality being genetic, or no different than watching a dirty movie lead the susceptible into sin and have to be corrected. Homosexual acts, not according to me but according to St Paul and the Church Fathers, is one of the worst sins. If not the worst.

I don’t see homosexuality as the worst sin (what about murder), if it were why wouldn’t that have been included somewhere in the list of the ten commandments? Perhaps It has, in the commandment admonishing the act of adultery. But adultery is most often associated with heterosexual sex acts?…

Although I do live in the Sonoran desert, I can assure you that sin abounds most everywhere on any street corner. Not everyone is called to be an evangelist, perhaps this is your special calling? But to focus all of your energies bleating about the perniciousness of homosexuality is nearsighted. Sin in general should be rallied against, IMHO. To make homosexuals feel extreme moral condemnation by singling them out by those that have many other sins hidden in their closets is hypocritical.

I don’t recall that Billy Graham (the great TV evangelist that I admired) singled out homosexuals for special condemnation?

By refusing to single out the sin of homosexuality, against the evil forces promoting this disgusting lifestyle in media, schools and government, you actually aid those forces. Homosexuality is worse than murder in that you only kill a man once, when you sexually degrade him over and over, you destroy his soul, as well as his body. St John Chrysostom says, “A murder dissevers the soul from the body, but homosexuality destroys the soul in the body.” Homosexuality, according to St Paul, makes an idol out of the body and in that way violates the 1st commandment. Of course, it’s much easier to get along in the world today if you downplay the seriousness of this sin, you won’t get invited to many cocktail parties, even in the desert.
