How do you know that they were given the choice of changing their minds up until the last minute? Even then peer pressure and feelings of honor may have prevailed. This notion that “Jesus was a Jew” rests on two doubtful premises. One is that Mary was a Jew, the other is that “Jew” meant the same thing, ethnically and religiously, as it does today.

To take the second premise first, the Talmudic Judaism that exists today may be a descendant, an offshoot, of the Hebraic tradition of the Old Testament, just as Christianity is. But it is certainly not identical to any Hebraic sect that existed in Judaea in the 1st century A.D., and today’s ethnic Jews are not mostly descended from 1st century Hebraic Judaeans. Therefore, “Jesus was a Jew” is essentially meaningless.

As to the idea that Mary was Jewish, she can’t have been in any way that is meaningful today. The Talmud itself rejects the notion, claiming that she was a gentile Galilean. “Galilean” seems to have two meanings, relating to a location in Palestine and also to a Hebraic sect or practice. It’s firmly established that there were varying sects and practices in the Hebraic tradition. The Pharisees did not consider Samaritans to be true “Jews,” for whatever reason, and their Talmudist descendants evidently felt the same way about Galileans.

Look at Christianity versus Atheism from logical reward-punishment viewpoints. First Atheism. If Atheists are correct and there is no God/Jesus, when they die they cease to exist. However, if Atheists are wrong and Jesus not only exists but is the Son of God, then Atheists are in a world of hurt. Worst case, Atheists go to an eternal punishment, which may include various beings telling them “I told you so”, forever.

Now Christianity. Worst case for a believing Christian: nothing; the Atheists were right and they no longer exist. The best case is they go to heaven and are reunited with loved ones and beloved pets, forever. Obviously, from a reward-punishment viewpoint Christianity is a better bet than Atheism. It is the better, logical choice.

The famous power of the 666 beast to allow buying and selling only with the mark of the beast might well be the decree by Titus that all of Judea became his personal property after the war. According to Josephus, Titus left 800 of his former soldiers in the 10th legion to look after Judea. I’m wondering if the “mark of the beastâ€� refers to the practice of demarcation of coins in a country being occupied by the 10th legion – the adding of an imprint to the face or tail side of each coin used in transactions. Could be a literary allusion to that strategy of control.

It’s worth considering for a moment how this might change the interpretation of the whole book. Revelation might still be an attack against everything Roman, but then again it might be a personal attack against Titus by a Roman rival. It may be of relevance that Suetonius wrote that Domitian had slighted the deceased Titus in several of his edicts upon becoming emperor. There is even speculation that Domitian assassinated Titus.

Joseph Atwill has wondered if the Revelation of John was actually one of Domitian’s edicts. Actually, when one compares the description of Domitian by Suetonius with description of the God in the Revelation, the correspondences are stunning. For example, Domitian insisted that everyone around him address him as “Lord God� and insisted that all in his presence where white robes. The mention of white robes is almost an obsession in the Revelation.

Brilliant! I love the article. I haven’t seen this type of debunking of the biblical claims since Gerald Massey and later Holger Kersten. You might want to add that the city of Nazareth didn’t exist until several hundred years after Jesus. The actual translation from the original Greek is more likely Nazarene, which, if he lived, is very possibly the sect he belonged to.

I still think my favorite book on the topic is “Is It God’s Word”, by Joseph Wheless.

What really got me started on the history and linguistics of Christianity and Judaism are the books of D.M. Murdock (aka Acharya S). Her books on the subject of Jesus mythicism are chock full of facts and citations of other authors. You don’t have to always agree with her ideas to appreciate the wealth of knowledge that she offers. In particular I would suggest The Christ Conspiracy, Suns of God, and Christ in Egypt.

I would also very much recommend Joseph Atwill and Caesar’s Messiah. Again, I don’t agree with all of his ideas. But he offers great historical context and a solid basis for treating the Gospels as intentional works of literature.

I absolutely recommend Richard Carrier and Jesus from Outer Space. As always, he reaches some different conclusions than I would, but his treatment of Paul and the “cosmic� Christ is outstanding.

I also recommend an interlinear Septuagint and New Testament. BibleHub.com is a great tool if you want to peek at the masoretic Hebrew.

I definitely recommend studying the Amarna letters and the history of Akhenaten.

I have also learned quite a bit, especially in regards to “paleo Hebrew� and the origins of the Hebrew language by surfing Wikipedia.

And yet after all this reading and searching I still know of no evidence of Hebrew language or culture that predates the Septuagint.

The Bhagavad Gita sits atop my pile of holy books, with the Upanishads beneath.

Having brooded over the the truth of Christianity and Jesus’ historicity for a very long time, I’ve come to the conclusion that, at the origins, Jesus was a Jewish Messiah of the Zealot type. He may or may not have been “real,” and unless something unequivocal is unearthed we will never know. He may have been a Jewish Nationalist aspirational fiction, an actual anti-Roman insurgent and bandit leader, a single individual or a composite figure, or any combination of these. This “real” Jesus was a Jewish nationalist. He was fanatical and fervently anti-Roman and anti-Gentile. Yes. I’ve observed that some of the greatest men of the past one hundred years spent time in prison. I thought Charles Manson’s way of handling his virtually lifelong imprisonment was fantastic, especially his wise insights that “the way out is not through the gate”. I engage in regular correspondence with two former associates of Charles Manson, namely Nikolas Schreck and James Mason. Another one of my favourites was Barry Mills who rose to become the leader of the Aryan Brotherhood prison gang in the American prison system from the 1980s until his death. He ended up enjoying prison, deliberately committing crimes to get back into prison because he could thrive inside there as a highly respected kingpin of organized crime in America.

Ever since my late teenage years I’ve always been fascinated by prison, especially American prisons. I would like to correct a mistake I have reiterated in my recent comments, quoting the supposed dissolution of Israel and the creation of Judah as around 600 BC. The actual purported date is around 900 BC.

I had this date confused with the Deuteronomic Reform, whose date is purported to be around 600 BC.

Since the United Kingdom of Israel is not supported by archaeological evidence, I consider the Deuteronomic reform to be the earliest possible origin of the Jews (Judeans).

Now let’s assume it’s genuine. It was first described in a publication titled “Phoenician Inscription in the Pool of Siloam�. Not a Hebrew inscription, a Phoenician inscription. Likewise modern commentators call the inscription “paleo Hebrew�. In other words, pre Hebrew.

I am not denying the existence of ancient Israel, only the Hebrews. Ancient Israel had a real language that the Hebrew language is based upon. I think it is wrong to call it “paleo Hebrew� and it would be much more accurate to call it the Israeli language.

I mean, what does it even mean to have a Hebrew inscription written in a pre Hebrew script? To me, that is just admitting that the inscription is a forgery. Otherwise it is deliberately muddying the waters.

Whether real or fake, the bottom line is that the inscription is not written in the Hebrew alphabet. It also does not attest to any aspect of Semitic/Hebrew/Jewish culture. It only attests to a construction project. That this construction project is mentioned in the Jewish Bible does not in any way corroborate the Jewish Bible. As mentioned in my other comment, the Jewish Bible is evidently plagiarized from genuine historical and mythological sources. So it may be true that the tunnel was built in ancient Israel, it may also be false that it was built under the kings of Judah.
