Hannah, my love.
I have a cat and I named her Hannah. I wanted her name to be palindromic and also sound like some good Japanese word at the same time an easily recognized western name.

It was not long before I came up with Hannah. It sounds like a Japanese word for "flower" (well, it is also a homonym of "nose").

She was born in Belgium in 2019. Her real birthday is a bit hazy but it is with a few days from Sunday, April 26 2019. She is 4 years old now.

She does not like to be held for long time.

She is shy. She may easily scared of people she does not know. When I carry her in the sling bag around, she buries her head deep in the bag to avoid having any eye contact with people.

She is also strong. When I took her to the vet to have a shot and ID implant as she was only two months old, she did not even wince when she got two shots around her neck.

I watch many cat videos on YouTube. Some of them feature subtitles that are supposed to be spoken by cats. Typically one of those "meows" when the owners come home late (or later than normal hours). They (cats) utter a special kind of meows that easily recognized by their owners as "You are late. Where have you been?" expressing their displeased feelings.

This evening I came home a bit too late after work. When I enter and turned on the light, my Hannah meowed at me expressing her frustration. I understood that she meant exactly, "You are late. Where have you been?"

sometimes I wonder . . .

Sometimes I wonder whether she likes me or not. I believe that I am liked by her. She does not like the crowd or simply put people. She may be afraid of strangers. For her, it seems that I am the only human she knows and trusts. I am the one who feeds her, of course. She has to like or trust me if she wants to survive.

When she was small, around 6 months old, I had to leave her and trusted her with friends of mine for about 10 day while I was in Japan. She survived. So she can be with others if she has to.

There are signs that cats show that they like their respective owners. I check them (signs) on YouTube and consider our relation.

I have to conclude that she likes me very much.

Anyway I am very proud of being a loved cat owner.

For about two weeks during my lost summer holidays, I had another cat with me. She was a big cat weighing about 6 kg. They (my Hannah and she) never got chummy. They never fought physically to my greatest relief.

She was very friendly to humans. Anyone could pick her up and she seemed to be never bothered.

I wish Hannah could be friendly to other people.

A1025 Two now has a problem

I was updating this very blog entry when it struck. A1025 Two (The second PowerBook G4 Titanium 1 GHz) while working with TenFourFox froze. I had to force-shutdown by holding the power button for a while to get out of this incident. After it I put it under anesthesia (in other words, Target Disk Mode) and tried to remedy the situation by repairing it from my MacBook Pro 13-inch Mid2010.

I could repair it and then I booted my A1025 Two. It kind failed to reach the desktop. I rebooted and then it reached the desktop. I tried to start TenFourFox to continue to edit this very entry. The TenFourFox never got to work properly.

Instead, the HDD inside seems to make access noise endlessly.

OMG! It happened. The HDD is failing. This HDD came with A1025 One but later transplanted into Two. I strongly assume and suspect that this HDD is the original HDD shipped from the factory and was already 19 years old. I don't blame it. It has already reached the age, the expected lifespan.

Now I have another task on my to-do list for the winter holidays.

Cats are sweeter when it is colder

It is my belief based on my experience and I believe that I am correct.

My Hannah spends more time on my lap when the room temperature gets lower. At night she sleeps near by my side most of the time. She does not sleep along with me under the same cover normally.

Last Spring when Liège-Bastogne-Liège was held in Belgium, I stayed at a camping site near the famous climb of la Redoute. I had only flimsy tent with me meant for Summer use. I knew it would be cold during the night. I prepared two flimsy sleeping bags also meant for Summer use.

I slept relatively well at night inside those two sleeping bags despite the almost freezing temperature outside and inside the tent. Hannah was happy to be free in the camping ground. She was on her own and prancing around. She could come in and go out of the tent freely. For this I had to keep a certain amount of entrance fastener open and this made the temperature inside the tent as cold as the outside temperature.

She spent a lot of time outside but finally she came in for a rest. She sought for a comfortable place to sleep and decided to enter the sleeping bag and cuddle up with me.

It was almost (not the first time as she was little, she sometimes came to me the same way at night) the first time she slept this way for a long period of time.

Now she is dozing on my lap and I am writing this on the PowerBook G4 which also sits on my lap. Hannah is resting her head on the touchpad zone.

Fortunately she is a small-sized cat. I guess she weighs around 4 kg. It is relatively easy to carry her around in my arms (or on my arm). It is thus possible to have her and a big laptop computer (PowerBook G4 15.4-inch) at the same time.

Cat-sitting

As I wrote in the previous entry, I am cat-sitting a female cat that belongs to a colleague of mine. She (the cat) seems to be very friendly to human and likes to stay home (or indoors). She (a colleague of mine) had another cat who liked outdoors but this cat is an MIA for the moment.

My Hannah likes to be in the woods. We used to take a long walk in the woods. I walked and she followed. Now she likes to be on her own. She occasionally catches a kind of gerbils and torments them. I don't blame her for killing those animals as it is in her blood. Cats are hunters.

I don't know if they can get along. I hope they do.


Supermarket ALDI in Luxembourg

I visit one of the shops closest to me. I used to visit there on foot but now I drive there. I don't have much time now left for walking during the week.

Lately I purchased 2 of reusable Nespresso® compatible capsules there. They were cheap. I have Wacaco Minipresso and Nanopresso. My Minipresso is Nespresso® compatible type. I used to use it on my camping trips but switched to Nanopresso as I wanted to save. Those Nespresso capsules are a bit expensive.

Now I will try to use these capsules on Wacaco Minipresso to see if they work.

Hannah

She threw up (or vomited) a bit this afternoon. It was nothing serious, I guess. In her vomit I recognized a chewed leaf. She was OK as soon as she finished vomiting.


HP Compaq CQ56

On its seemingly French keyboard (that I have on mine) there are some keys on the left side of the keyboard outside left shift key or tab key.. They have icons on them like a globe, a calculator, an envelope, a printer or so.

I did not know if they would work from Linux (in my case a Ubuntu family). I knew that they would definitely work under Windows 7 (and most likely later).
They did. When I press the globe key, the default web browser (FireFox) starts up. When I press the calculator key, a calculator program goes up. Nice.

Other keys like those function keys with icons (pictographs) also work. Screen brightness, monitor preferences, volume up/down/mute and others. Nice.

Except for the raging heat blowing off the CPU heat pipe radiator (and the French keyboard), this machine is just fine.


First ebay purchase in a great while

I ordered an AMD Athlon II N370 (used) and a (new? used?) US layout keyboard for the HP Compaq Presario CQ56. They were cheap. I would like to have this dual core CPU. It is supposed to be still hotter than the current V160 (single core).
