Today, I was riding my bike late at night on my way home after work. When I started off, I immediately noticed that the chain was not sitting well on the cassette. I felt this clicking noise, too. I got off the bike and turned the tension knob on the rear deraileur. This did not help at all. I repeatedly kept getting off the bike and turning the knob more than four times until the chain broke off.
I use a Shimano Dura-ace 7801 chain and a KMC missing link (chain connector). Yes, a one of the pair (missing link) was missing. One of the pair connecting links must have come off soon after I started off. This is why the chain was not sitting well on the cassette.
It happened just after I ran into the cycling/dog-walking/jogging road along the Alzette. From there, I had to walk all the way home about 4 to 5km (2.5 to 3.5 miles. I think I walked more than an hour.
This missing link is fairly new. It is in use for about one or two months? Oh, well, shit happens.
I will keep one missing link in my tool box in my pocket.

夜仕事の帰り。自転車に乗ってすぐにチェーンが滑ってる感触があった。カチャカチャと暴れる音もした。下りて、リアディレーラーのテンション調節のノブをヒネった。でも同じ現象が起こる。走って、また下りて調整ノブを回してテンションをかけた。でも不具合の解消にはならない。この繰り返し。テンションを緩めてみたりもした。
そして、アルゼット川沿いのサイクリング道に入って直ぐにチェーンが切れた。チェーンを繋いでるのはKMCのミッシングリンクです。このミッシングリンクの片方が無い。もう片方も壊れた。
走り始めて直ぐ、片方が欠落し、チェーンが伸びたので、カチャカチャと暴れた訳でしょう。そのまま走行したので、残った片方も無理な力がかかり、ついに壊れたということです。
最近交換したばかりの新品なので、不良品だったのでしょう。仕方ない。
その場所から家までは4kmか5kmもある。チェーンが無いと自転車は進まない。歩いた。途中に二ヶ所だけ短い下りがある。そこだけ自転車に乗ったが、ほんのわずかの距離。一時間以上歩いた。やれやれ。
今後は持ち歩いてる工具にミッシングリンクも付け加えます。こんな目には二度と遭いたくない。
