Disney Stars and Motor Cars Parade was a parade at Disney's Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World. The parade first premiered on October 1, 2001 as part of the Walt Disney World's 100 Years of Magic Celebration. The parade is a procession of characters riding in highly themed cars down the streets of Disney's Hollywood Studios in true Hollywood style. The parade route from the gate next to Star Tours over to Hollywood Boulevard to next to the exit of the park.
During the holiday season, the parade was transformed into the "Hollywood Holly-day Parade". The parade had its final run at Disney's Hollywood Studios on March 8, 2008. It has been replaced by the Block Party Bash parade from Disney California Adventure. Block Party Bash had its "soft opening" on March 9, 2008. Part of the parade moved to its sister park, the Walt Disney Studios Park at Disneyland Paris in 2009, and was renamed Disney Stars 'n' Cars. It premiered on April 4, with previews for guests beginning on March 9.[1]
The following eleven cars were at the Walt Disney Studios Park parade from the premiere on April 4, 2009. The parade route began from the gate next to Animagique to Place des Stars and has a show there and meet and greet. After this show, the cars go the route in a different line back to the gate next to Animagique. The parade had an update on April 2, 2010 with the twelve floats: Ratatouille. As of 2012, the show has been cut from Place des Stars, with the floats driving through the studios as a normal parade. The final run was in 2014, because some of the cars had transformed to the Spring time event floats in 2015.
Since 2013, the cars has been used for the new year countdown parade as Disney's Stars 'n' Cars... As Never Seen Before and Mickey's New Year's Eve Parade in 2016.
Regular cars
Florida
- The Grand Marshal - This blue car themed to movie strips and stars normally features a different family that is selected every day, making the family feel like true Hollywood stars. However, on some occasions, it has been used for guest characters in order to promote movies. Chicken Little (2005), Remy (Mid-2007), and Giselle (Late-2007) appeared on this float to promote Chicken Little, Ratatouille, and Enchanted respectively. In the Hollywood Holy-Day Parade, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse ride this car, as the car they normally ride is taken by Santa Claus. In these cases, human grand marshals would normally ride a smaller car.
- Cars - Debuted in 2006, this unit features Lightning McQueen and Mater and was originally made to promote the film until becoming a semi-permanent addition afterwards, alternating with the Grand Marshal float.
- Toy Story - Led by Bo Peep, Jessie, and some Green Army Men, the Toy Story car is themed to Andy's bed. Woody and Buzz Lightyear ride the car, while statues of Mr. and and Mrs. Potato Head appear on front.
- Mary Poppins - Led by the Penguin Waiters, this tan/pink car features Mary Poppins and Bert riding on carousel horses.
- The Muppets - Led on ground by Sweetums, Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy ride this green Blimp-car, connected together with sandbags so the blimp doesn't send the two floating away.
- Star Wars - On this 1950 Studebaker Champion Regal convertible based on Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder, Luke and Princess Leia "float" aboard while R2-D2 and Darth Vader lead and precede away respectively.
- Mulan - This red Chinese-themed car features Fa Mulan as she sits on a fitting throne, decked out with a Chinese-inspired umbrella. She is preceded on-foot by Mushu.
- Monsters, Inc. (2002-2008) - Added in 2002, this red convertible is inspired by Mike's car from Mike's New Car, and features the logo for Monsters, Inc. on the back. James P. Sullivan and Mike Wazowski ride aboard.
- Aladdin - Led by several Harem Girls, Jasmine and Aladdin ride a transformed Genie.
- Hercules (2001-2005) - This car splashed with thunderbolts carries Hercules and Megara. They are led on foot by Philoctetes, Pain and Panic. This car was retired in 2005, and rethemed to the Power Rangers.
- Power Rangers (2005-2008) - This electrifying car decked out with the show's thunderbolt logo on the back carries a Power Ranger from the then-latest season of the series every year, who stands guard as other Power Rangers from the various Disney-era seasons lead it away.
- Disney Villains - This black limousine decorated with orange flames is certainly the perfect choice for Hades. He is preceded by several other Villains: Cruella De Vil, Jafar, the Evil Queen, Captain Hook, and Claude Frollo.
- Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001-2002) - Led by Vincenzo Santorini and Gaetan Molière, this silver car carries Milo Thatch and Kida Nedakh. The car was retired the following year, and was rethemed to Lilo and Stitch.
- Lilo & Stitch (2002-2008) - Lilo and Stitch ride this Hawaiian-themed car decked out with surfboards, palm trees, and bushes.
- The Little Mermaid - This "Under the Sea" themed car features Ariel riding inside a large shell. A puppet of Sebastian and a carving of Flounder make up this car, which is led by various dancers holding fish kites.
- Playhouse Disney - This pink car with arrows and question marks is ridden by Bear. Inside the Big Blue House is his friend Treelo, alongside puppets of Stanley and Peanut and Jelly Otter. They are preceded by walk-arounds of Olie Polie and Zowie Polie from Rolie Polie Olie, but they were replaced with JoJo Tickle and Goliath beginning in 2004.
- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - This car is modeled after Snow White's own dress. Snow White herself rides the car, sometimes with Dopey.
- Finale - The final car to be featured is a 1929 Cadillac, driven by Goofy, with Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, and Minnie Mouse as his guests, all in their best hollywood attire. In the Hollywood Holy-Day Parade, Santa Claus takes their spot on the car.
Paris
- Mickey and Minnie - The 1929 Cadillac becomes the lead Car in Paris, with Mickey and Minnie riding and a new sign with the parade title on it. Goofy appears on foot.
- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - Ridden by Snow White and Dopey.
- Toy Story - Ridden by Woody and Jessie.
- Monsters, Inc. - Ridden by James P. Sullivan.
- The Little Mermaid - Ridden by Ariel. In this version, she is in her human-form, and Sebastian becomes a carved figure.
- Mulan - Ridden by Fa Mulan.
- Donald and Daisy - Ridden by Donald Duck and Daisy Duck. This was a redesigned version of the Muppets car.
- Mary Poppins - Ridden by Mary Poppins and Bert.
- Aladdin - Ridden by Jasmine and Aladdin.
- Ratatouille (2010-2014) - Ridden by Remy and Emile. This was a redesigned version of the Star Wars car.
- Lilo and Stitch - Ridden by Lilo and Stitch.
- Disney Villains (2009-2013) - Ridden by Gaston, Cruella De Vil, and the Evil Queen.
Other
- Spring Car 1 - This themed car is a redesigned version of the Monsters, Inc. car.
- Spring Car 2 - This themed car is a redesigned version of the Snow White car.
- Moana - Redesigned version of the Lilo and Stitch car.
