"Field of Screams" is the sixteenth episode of Monsters at Work. It aired on April 20, 2024, and is the sixth episode of the second season.
Synopsis[]
At the annual Monsters, Inc., vs. FearCo. softball game, Val tries to tell Tylor about a job offer from Mike and Sulley.
Plot[]
Tylor begins having nightmares about passing up Johnny's offer to join Fear Co. and his budding friendship with Val. Sulley and Mike are preparing for the company's annual softball game against Fear Co., something that the latter had only just heard about. Val comes to see them and Mike offers a position as Jokester to her. While happy, this means that she will be separated from Tylor and they give her the chance to talk it over with him before.
On the way to the softball game, Tylor tells Val about the weird nightmare he has been having about passing up Johnny's offer. Val attempts to empathize by claiming that she too had a dream about being a Jokester, something that Tylor seemingly scoffs at. Throughout the day, Val tries to tell Tylor the news, but he does not take her seriously. Mike tries to read up on softball by his favorite coach Lou "Stubby" Lizzardo. He is shocked to discover that he is actually coaching Fear Co.'s team, and starts to double think every strategy they take throughout the game.
The softball game actually starts with Monsters, Inc. in the lead, but FearCo. quickly catches up. During the game, Tylor learns that Johnny has already hired new monster Skyler to be his new scarer, He proves to be rather unintelligent due to the fact that all he says is, "Hi, I'm Skyler," and Tylor starts going out of his way to try and show how much better he is.
Eventually, Fear Co. manages to get one point above Monsters, Inc. and a frustrated Val finally tells Tylor that she was offered a job as a Jokester, stunning Tylor. After accidentally injuring Skyler, Sulley offers up one of their own players in good faith to Fear Co., that player being Tylor. Tylor must pitch against Val who is visibly hurt and upset with him. After a couple of strikes and foul balls, Val finally hits the ball, but Tylor catches it, causing FearCo. to win the game. Tylor once again asks Johnny about the job, but he tells him that he has already made his decision.
A disappointed Mike is given Stubby's baseball glove by Sulley (he fell asleep during the game, and Sulley simply took it). As Tylor gets on the bus, he is looked down on by the rest of the team. He attempts to speak with Val who ignores him.
Later at night, Stubby wakes up to find that his baseball glove is gone.
