The Little Mermaid is the soundtrack album to the live-action remake of the same name. It features songs from the original film written by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, as well as new songs by Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also co-produced the film and the soundtrack. The album also includes the film's score composed by Menken and it was released by Walt Disney Records on May 19, 2023, a week before the film's theatrical release.

Background

In December 2017, Disney announced that Rob Marshall was being courted to direct a live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, with Menken and Miranda attached to write new songs for the film. Menken, who composed the score and co-wrote the songs for the original film with Ashman, said that he wanted to honor Ashman's legacy by using his unused lyrics and ideas for the remake. Miranda, who is a fan of the original film and named his son Sebastian after the crab character, said that he wanted to collaborate with Menken and create songs that fit the tone and style of the original soundtrack.
