The ride follows, very closely, the story of the film. The queue area is themed to a bus station in Monstropolis. Posters of Harryhausen's, a restaurant from the film, are placed in the queue, foreshadowing a scene within the attraction. Guests board taxicabs that embark on a journey through the streets of Monstropolis. A small television monitor in each of the three rows of the ride vehicle plays a clip of a welcome video that is interrupted with an emergency broadcast stating that a deadly human child has entered Monstropolis. More scenes of the movie are recreated through audio-animatronics and smells, such as the faint smell of ginger in Harryhausen's. The attraction's ending features an Audio-Animatronic version of Roz, and she can "ask" riders questions controlled by a cast member backstage. Sometimes, Roz will also say "Young lady in the first row. Nice ears. What lovely ears you have." or "Young man in the first row. Nice ears! Are those your real ears?" She'll only say this when she recognizes guests who wear Mickey and Minnie Mouse ear hats.

When Randall gets beaten up by Boo, one of the patterns he changes into is the wallpaper from The Haunted Mansion.
Many of the CDA figures in the attraction are redressed versions of Superstar Limo's celebrities, with the Jackie Chan and Drew Carey figures maintaining their original poses.
