The Boiler Room is a location in the 2001 Disney•Pixar film Monsters, Inc., where it is a section of the eponymous business. It is where Randall Boggs and CEO Henry J. Waternoose III set their conspiracy to construct a machine that will extract screams from children of the Human World in order to keep Monsters, Inc. from losing business.
Background[]
The boiler room is located in the hidden depths of Monsters, Inc., where it is accessible through a secret passage hidden by a fake wall that houses tools. Sulley and Boo manage to come across the boiler room after Mike Wazowski, Sulley's friend, is kidnapped by Randall (who he believed to be Boo) and takes him to the boiler room where Randall and Fungus use Mike as a test subject for the Scream Extractor, but Sulley manages to save Mike in time.
Later, the bad guys manage to capture Boo and are about to use the Scream Extractor on her, but Sulley manages to save Boo in the nick of time. Randall tries to stop them from escaping by beating Sulley up while invisible, but Mike accidentally exposes Randall, Sulley punches him out, and the protagonists escape with Randall giving chase.
Soon, the conspiracy is made public and Randall is banished from the monster world, Waternoose is arrested, and Boo is sent back to the Human World. It is likely that the boiler room is still running, but is now used for refinery.
Trivia[]
- It is likely that the boiler room was an abandoned section of Monsters, Inc. that Waternoose and Randall used as their lair to work in secrecy.
