- “Snow White! You did this! You broke the spell and made me a witch once more! So now I'll take your beauty, you wicked child! Then you'll be as ugly as me! Aaah ha ha ha!”
- ―The Witch of Potions after losing her fairy beauty[src]
The Witch of Potions is a character created by Guido Martina and Romano Scarpa, appearing in the comic story "Peril of the Witch of Potions" in 1954 (translated and collected by Fantagraphics in 2017). She is an adversary of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
One year after their wedding, Snow White and Prince Charming organize a grand ball to celebrate their anniversary. In attendance is the lovely but vain fairy Honeysweet and her squire Sir Frido. During the ball, Snow White gifts Honeysweet with a bouquet of flowers. However, while dancing, a flower from the bouquet falls to the floor and causes Honeysweet to fall. Failing to maintain her poise and manners breaks her spell of false beauty, and the beautiful Honeysweet reverts to her true form -- the vile Witch of Potions.
Enraged, the Witch of Potions orders Frido to capture Snow White, but the young princess manages to outrun the witch's accomplice. The Witch of Potions takes Prince Charming as her prisoner and magically destroys the prince's castle. At her own castle, the Witch of Potions bestows Frido with a ring that enables him to change his appearance in order for him to track down Snow White.
Frido ultimately manages to capture Snow White, and the Witch of Potions prepares the ritual to steal her beauty. However, the Dwarfs stop the ritual by destroying the witch's magical potion. With Snow White still in captivity, the Witch sends for the Woozy Wizard, as she believes he can help her fulfill her plot without another ambush. The Dwarfs intercept the Woozy Wizard and disguise themselves as him, but their plan is accidentally foiled by Sneezy. The Witch captures six of the Dwarfs, but Dopey eludes captivity and rescues his brothers.
The Dwarfs recruit help from the hedgehog Queen Yunaka and the falcon King Claw in their quest to save Snow White and the Prince. Meanwhile, the Witch is finally united with the Woozy Wizard, who agrees to help her with stealing Snow White's beauty. The Dwarfs once again ambush the ritual, using Yunaka's quills as arrows on the witch. The Witch of Potions attempts to flee, but is caught by King Claw's forces and dropped into a nearby lake. As witches were unable to become immersed in water without death, the Witch of Potions melts away forever. Her evil magic is also undone, restoring Prince Charming's Castle in the Clouds.
