Frank Minis Johnson, Jr. (1918-1999) was a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama, the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, and the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. Johnson died on July 23, 1999.

Federal judicial career

Middle District of Alabama

Johnson received a recess appointment to the United States District Court for the Middle District of Alabama from President Eisenhower on October 22, 1955, to a seat vacated by Charles Brents Kennamer; nominated on January 12, 1956; he was confirmed by the Senate on January 31, 1956, and received commission on the next day. From 1966-1979, he served as the chief judge. Johnson served the Middle District of Alabama until he was elevated to the Fifth Circuit on July 12, 1979.[1] Johnson was succeeded in this position by Myron Thompson.

Fifth Circuit

Johnson was nominated to the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit by President Jimmy Carter on April 2, 1979, to a new seat created by 92 Stat. 1629. He was confirmed by the Senate on June 19, 1979, and received commission on June 21, 1979. He served the Fifth Circuit until he was reassigned to the Eleventh Circuit on October 1, 1981.[1]

Eleventh Circuit

Judge Johnson was reassigned to the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit on October 1, 1981. He assumed senior status on October 30, 1991. He served the Eleventh Circuit until his death on July 23, 1999.[1]
