Joseph Carmine Zavatt (1900-1985) was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. He joined the court in 1957 after an appointment from Dwight Eisenhower. At the time of appointment, he was a private practice attorney in New York. He served as chief judge from 1962-1969. He assumed senior status on December 31, 1970, and served in that position until his death on August 31, 1985.[1]

Zavatt was nominated by Dwight Eisenhower on June 21, 1957, to a seat vacated by Clarence Galston;he was confirmed by the Senate on August 5, 1957, and received his commission on August 7th. He served as chief judge from 1962-1969. He assumed senior status on December 31, 1970, and served in that position until his death on August 31, 1985.[1] Zavatt was succeeded in this position by Edward Neaher.
