William Marcellin Hoeveler was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. He joined the court in 1977 after being nominated by President Jimmy Carter.[1]

Early life and education

Born in Paris, France, Hoeveler graduated from Bucknell University with his bachelor's degree in 1947 and from Harvard Law School with his LL.B. in 1950.[1]

Military service

Hoeveler served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942 to 1946.[1]

Hoeveler was nominated by President Jimmy Carter on April 5, 1977, to a seat on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida vacated by Peter Fay. Hoeveler was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on April 25, 1977, and he received his commission the next day. Hoeveler elected to take senior status beginning on January 31, 1991, and served as a senior judge until his death on November 18, 2017. Hoeveler was succeeded in this position by Judge Wilkie Ferguson.[1]
