Robert Andrew Ainsworth, Jr. (1910-1981) was a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.[1]

Early life and education

Judge Ainsworth received his law degree (LL.B.) from Loyola University's New Orleans School of Law in 1932.[1]

Professional career

Judge Ainsworth began his legal career as a private practice lawyer in 1932. He worked in this position until 1961. He also served as a U.S. Navy Lieutenant (1944) and a Louisiana State Senator (1952-1961) during this time.[1]

Judicial career

Third Circuit

Ainsworth was nominated to the Third Circuit by President Lyndon Johnson on June 28, 1966, to a new seat created by 80 Stat. 75; he was confirmed by the Senate on July 22, 1966, and received commission that same day. He served until his death on December 22, 1981.[1]

Eastern District of Louisiana

Ainsworth was nominated to the Eastern District of Louisiana by President John F. Kennedy on September 14, 1961, to a new seat created by 75 Stat. 80; he was confirmed by the Senate on September 21, 1961, and received commission the next day. He served the Eastern District of Louisiana until he was elevated to the Fifth Circuit on August 31, 1966.[1] Ainsworth was succeeded in this position by Edward Boyle.
