John Milton Bryan Simpson (1903-1987) was a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit and the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.

Judicial service

Southern District of Florida

Simpson was nominated to the Southern District of Florida by President Harry Truman on September 14, 1950, to a seat vacated by Louie Willard Strum; he was confirmed by the Senate on September 23, 1950, and received his commission on September 26, 1950. From 1961-1962, he served as the chief judge. He served the Southern District of Florida until he was reassigned to the Middle District of Florida on October 29, 1962.[1]

Middle District of Florida

Simpson was reassigned to the Middle District of Florida by President Harry Truman on October 29, 1962 to a new seat authorized by 76 Stat. 247.. From 1962-1966, he served as the chief judge. He served the Middle District of Florida until he was elevated to the Fifth Circuit on November 22, 1966.[1] Simpson was succeeded in this position by Isaac Krentzman.

Fifth Circuit

Simpson was nominated to the Fifth Circuit by President Lyndon Johnson on October 11, 1966, to a new seat created by 80 Stat. 75; he was confirmed by the Senate on October 20, 1966, and received commission on November 3, 1966. He assumed senior status on June 30, 1975.[1]

Eleventh Circuit

Judge Simpson served the Fifth Circuit until he was reassigned to the Eleventh Circuit on October 1, 1981. He served the Eleventh Circuit until his death on August 22, 1987.[1]
