Gustave Diamond was a federal judge with the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. He joined the court in 1978 after being nominated by President Jimmy Carter (D). He assumed senior status on January 31, 1994. His service ended when he died on October 30, 2021.[1]

Early life and education

A native of Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, Diamond graduated from Duke University with his bachelor's degree in 1951 and from Duquesne University School of Law with his J.D. in 1956.[1]

Military service

Diamond served as a seaman in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1948.[1]

Professional career

Judicial career

Western District of Pennsylvania

Diamond was nominated by President Jimmy Carter (D) on March 22, 1978, to a seat on the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania vacated by Edward Dumbauld. Diamond was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 1, 1978, and he received his commission on May 2, 1978. Diamond served as the chief judge of the court from 1992 to 1994. He elected to take senior status beginning on January 31, 1994. His service ended when he died on October 30, 2021.[1] He was succeeded in this position by Judge Robert Cindrich.
