Robert Palmer Anderson (1906-1978) was a federal judge for the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut and the United States Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit. He joined the Second Circuit in 1964 after an appointment from Lyndon Johnson. He joined the District of Connecticut in 1954 after an appointment from Dwight Eisenhower. At the time of his appointment, he was a Judge on the Connecticut Superior Court. He served as chief judge of the district court from 1960-1964. He assumed senior status on May 1, 1971. He served the Second Circuit until his death on May 2, 1978.[1]

Federal judicial career

Second Circuit

Anderson was nominated to the Second Circuit by President Lyndon Johnson on August 4, 1964, to a seat vacated by Charles Clark; he was confirmed by the Senate on August 15, 1964, and received his commission that same day. He assumed senior status on May 1, 1971. He served the Second Circuit until his death on May 2, 1978.[1] He was succeeded to this post by William Timbers.

District of Connecticut

Anderson was nominated by President Dwight Eisenhower on April 6, 1954, to a seat vacated by Carroll Hincks; he was confirmed by the Senate on April 23, 1954, and received his commission on April 27, 1954. From 1960-1964, he served as the chief judge. He served the District of Connecticut until he was elevated to the Second Circuit on August 20, 1964.[1] He was succeeded to this post by Robert Zampano.
