I went to school in Cleveland Ohio, graduated in 85 and lived through the interesting to say the least time of forced desegregation in public schools. Had black friends and of course white friends as well, but I never fell into the ridiculous idea of adopting the speech and cultural mannerisms of our colored cousins. I knew many that did and some even took beat downs for “acting black.” One of my black friends a guy named Altha, said to me one day that he appreciated the fact that I didn’t try and fit in with blacks by adopting their differences to my own. He told me as well that the white dudes that tried that were laughed at constantly behind their backs for being two faced clowns. One of my nephews took a pretty good trouncing from my brother when he showed up one day from school with his pants “sagging.” Needless to say that was the last time that ever happened. Sadly I believe our culture and race is dying right before our eyes, and the truly sad part is we’re probably going to allow it to happen.
