I can suggest to you that if you are willing to try to verify your beliefs you do the following.

1. Get a telescope
2. Go to the beach
3. Aim the telescope to the horizon at a ship heading towards (or leaving) port
4. You will be able to see the superstructure of the ship before (or after for departing ships) you can see the hull of the arriving ship.

If the earth were actually flat, you would see the entire ship (superstructure and hull) at the same time. I have actually seen this effect personally (through a periscope, not a telescope), and it should convince anyone with an open mind.

As far as the carbon dating process I understand it’s limitations, but for many things that are fossilized that are in the range of less than 60k years the accuracy numbers for those materials are in the to 2 to 5% range. For the fossils that are much older all this does is cement the truth that the earth is way older than your book tells you and yet again puts your opinions to rest.
