Thank you for this article telling “the rest of the story”. The pederast priest scandal is probably the WORST scandal in the history of the Catholic Church, but I think it is a mistake to create the false dichotomy that it is either a fraud, or that the Church is rife with homosexuals. The two choices are not mutually exclusive, and I think there are truths to both sides.

I think that the post-Vatican II Church became infiltrated with homosexuals, freemasons and communists (also not mutually exclusive) who became priests and then bishops. The story of homosexual infiltration into the seminaries is well documented in Michael Rose’s book, “Goodbye Good Men”.

Homosexuals have always preyed upon young boys. This dates back to the ancient Greek times, and the statistics prove this out today. If you put a homosexual in a normal situation with a young boy, the homosexual is going to think of this as an “erotic” situation. That’s their nature. The Church had never allowed them to become priests for this reason, and the US Bishops ignored this longstanding rule. They were operating under that misconception that modern psychology had somehow disproved that homosexuality was a disorder, and that was a grave error on their part. Randy Engels’ book “The Rite of Sodomy” does a good job of tracing the pederasty scandal and the homosexual bishops who helped to bring it about.

But the scandal was also a dinner bell for unscrupulous lawyers and other liars who found it very easy to milk the Church out of billions of dollars. I remember meeting a guy, not a Catholic who said that he knew this pederast priest business was a scam when his wife’s divorce attorney signed onto a class action lawsuit for 10’s of thousands.

After the pederast priest scandal broke, many legislatures across the nation changed their statutes of limitation so that allegations could be brought decades after the priests and witnesses had died. Did something change? Was there some new reason to believe that statutes of limitation no longer kept bad cases with no evidence out of the courts? Or was this just an opportunity to bleed the Church coffers?

One last point is that we need to use the word “pederast” to describe this business rather than “pedophile”. A pederast is one who specifically preys on young men, whereas the pedophile is sexually attracted to children. 90% of the cases in the scandal are classic examples of pederasty. The media doesn’t like to use the appropriate word because it reveals the harmful nature of homosexuality.

In my opinion, 20% – 60% of Catholic priests are homosexual – some active – some not. Like the homosexual community in general, some are pedophiles.

In general Catholic schools provide the Church with priests. This is where the trouble starts. They use the word “vocations.� It starts with seventh and eight boys are who are pushed to proclaim their “vocation for the priesthood.� This is the same time that they are choosing their sexual orientation – straight or gay. Because of social pressure to be straight, an easy way out for a homosexual boy is to go for the priesthood. Hence the large percentage of homosexual priests.

The options today for homosexual boys is now far greater. As an organization, the Church is going to be forced to make some changes. Celibacy is no longer needed to advance the teachings of Jesus Christ.

With all that said, I am grateful for the priests and nuns (straight and homosexual) for bringing Jesus Christ to me. There is much that can be said about the bad the Catholic Church has done – but on the whole the good far exceeds the bad.

however, the isolated instances of opportunism do not nullify the legitimacy of victim’s claims.

It’s easier to get significant chunk of money from Catholic Church than synagogues or protestant congregations. Catholic Church is organized in dioceses. A diocese aggregates finances of many congregations. Protestant congregations and Jewish synagogues are not aggregated financial. A pedophile rabbi or pastor can be financially backed up only by his synagogue or congregation which have little money comparing to one Catholic diocese.

This shows that in evolutionary sense one big animal is more vulnerable than several small ones to the attack.

I and my wife are faithful Catholics who goes to church in the city of Boston (West Rox). We saw Spotlight in the theater and thought it was entertaining docufiction. I knew immediately after seeing it that it would garner all the awards due to the subject matter (traditional institutions make the elites uncomfortable). Spotlight didn’t expose the priest scandal. It was openly known well before that. You can got back to radio interviews of Fr. Malachi Martin on “Coast to Coast”, the Art Bell radio show, back in the mid-1990’s. Fr. Martin even explained why the hierarchy transferred these pedophile priests around, who were then free to victimize other children (hint: because of money and the avoidance of “to give scandal”, but primarily the demonic).

The best person to read on the priest scandal is Leon J. Podles, author of Sacrilege: Sexual Abuse in the Catholic Church. Dr. Podles is a retired federal background investigator and a faithful Catholic.

The media has been quite successful in portraying this as a problem of the priesthood when really it is a problem of homosexuality. It is common for homosexuals to place themselves in positions where they have access to young boys such as coaches, ministers and boy scout leaders but of course (((the media)) largely ignores this and makes it about Catholicism.
