Sandra Townes was a federal judge on senior status for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. She joined the court in 2004 after being nominated by President George W. Bush.[1] Townes assumed senior status on May 1, 2015.[2] She passed away in 2018.[3]

Education

Townes graduated from Johnson C. Smith University with her bachelor's degree in 1966 and later graduated from Syracuse University College of Law with her J.D. in 1976.[1]

Townes was nominated by President George W. Bush on August 1, 2003, to a seat vacated by Judge Sterling Johnson, Jr. Townes was confirmed on June 3, 2004, on a 95-0-5 vote and received commission on August 2, 2004.[4] Townes assumed senior status on May 1, 2015.[2]
