The Marquis is a sailboat that appears in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto V, and Grand Theft Auto Online. It is manufactured by Dinka in the HD Universe.
Influence[]
3D Universe[]
Throughout the 3D Universe, the Marquis is generally based on Faurby Yachts, seen in the overall shape of the hull and similar features, albeit with a rather exaggerated living quarters, being larger and narrower than the ones from the real Faurby Yachts.
HD Universe[]
The HD Universe rendition of the Marquis is based on Adjutor Yachts, seen heavily in both the bow and the stern of the yacht, as well as the quarterdeck. The prow of the Marquis is not as long as the Adjutor, but the side rear windows and portholes are almost identical in shape.
Design[]
3D Universe[]
The vessel is depicted as a leisure sailboat with a Monohull design and tall hand rails around, where the bow/front area features an anchor in the centre and additional frames over the rails.
The main deck has a brownish/wooden finish and features the living quarters with numerous windows, a lifebuoy on the rear left, an unusable door on the back, and a Bermuda rig on top (though the sails of the ship are down and completely rolled up, thus having no practical use). In Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, several brown/wooden details were added.
Towards the stern/rear area, there is the quarterdeck with the helm for the captain, which stands behind it in a similar way to the Dinghy, along with access steps beside the main deck, small crates next to the living quarters, and small winches beside the captain's area. On the stern/rear end, another access step can be seen in the centre, along with two small nozzles and the propulsion motor below. In GTA San Andreas, there are additional details around the main deck and on the support of the helm, while the stern/rear end replaces the nozzles with a small metal ladder and a lower step/board.
All renditions can spawn with an optional dodger/top above the access door of the living quarters. In GTA Vice City and GTA Vice City Stories, the vessel is mostly white with a variety of secondary colours on the upper portions of the hull, optional top and sail, while in GTA San Andreas, it spawns in a small variety of primary colours for the lower portions of the hull and the living quarters on the deck, with the secondary colour being applied to the same areas as the GTA Vice City model.
Grand Theft Auto IV[]
In comparison to the former blocky design, the updated Marquis is sleeker and modernised, complete with a bulkier hull and a long keel underneath, along with silver/chrome rails on the bow and the quarters of the stern, thinner frames/lifelines on the port and starboard sides, and orange fenders hanging on the sides. The end of the bow also features an anchor.
The main deck gains a wooden finish with small cleats around and a single winch on the end of the bow, while the living quarters feature numerous opaque windows, additional winches and cleats on the rearmost area, the access door with a small lamp on the back and the bermuda rig on top. The same rig bears both the jib and the mainsail, the latter of which is hooked onto the boom via one clew and one tack. From the masthead are two shrouds on either side, two backstays and one slightly thicker headstay, which ties down just behind the pullpit. Again, the sails are simply for decorative purposes and serve no practical use, as they are always folded within the mast.
Towards the stern/rear area, the quarterdeck gains a rearranged layout, consisting of large bench seats on the front and smaller seats on the rear, with the helm and small instruments on the rear left seat. Additional cleats, winches and windows can be seen on the gunwales/upper edges of the quarter deck, while the stern has a larger swim step on the rear and a single propeller within a rear fin/rudder assembly below.
The Marquis only spawns in a white colour.
Grand Theft Auto V and Online[]
The Marquis in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online remains identical to the GTA IV iteration, although the mast is exposed and is revealed to have a wooden beam.
The boat may spawn with either two sails attached to the mast or with no sails at all. The sails may flutter loosely in the wind, but they do not move the boat in any way. The vessel also sports an updated colour scheme: a secondary colour on the lower portion of the hull, in the form of side stripes on the upper area and the portion around the front and side windows of the living quarters.
Performance[]
3D Universe[]
While it is one of the largest boats in the games and common in various locations, the Marquis is significantly slow (due to its underwhelming motor) and has stiff controls. The low speed of the Marquis makes it a terrible option for getaways, where the police Predators are chasing the player. The boat is distinguished by its resistance to collisions and is very stable, considering the heavy weight.
Its only advantage is to be able to carry a lot of people, which is of little use. Also, it can be used to transport large gangs in GTA San Andreas, but other, smaller boats can also easily carry eight people, such as the Reefer, Tropic or Coastguard.
The Marquis uses a single inboard engine with a Z-drive propeller, and it shares the sound with other boats in their respective games.

Grand Theft Auto IV[]
The Marquis remains one of the slowest boats in the game, though the changes in controls make it less heavier than in the 3D Universe. The boat can reach moderate speeds and its handling seems to be improved, but it is still a poor choice for wanted levels, as the Police Predators will catch the player easily. As one can expect, the weight of the boat will allow the boat to push other smaller boats without much effort.
Again, the boat is powered by a single inboard engine, which has a low-revving sound.

Grand Theft Auto V and Online[]
The performance of the Marquis remains unchanged from GTA IV and still remains one of the slowest boats in the GTA Universe. However, it is slightly more responsive and does not take a while to change direction or reversing the boat. Because of its slow speed and heavy weight, the Marquis does not suffer easily when travelling through waves. Unlike previous games, the Marquis' mast is solid and will not be able to pass through solid objects or low-level bridges.
Again, the boat is powered by a single inboard engine, which has a low-revving sound with a similar tone to vehicles such as the Bullet and the Tornado.

Version History[]
Static Variants[]
There are Marquis props at the Grand Senora Desert:
- One is made of wood. It is missing the propeller, but there is no other sign of damage. The rear of the ship has a panel with "MARQUIS" written on it.
- The other has an identically shaped hull, looks newer and gains a conventional construction instead of being made of wood. It has a propeller, but is missing the mast. This one has no name, but there is a registration code "LS 4145 RS" written near the front end.
- The wooden one is at a farm to the west of Sandy Shores Airfield, while the slightly newer looking, but mastless one is about 0.25 miles to the south-east of the wooden one. Similarly, newer version with a mast and flags are on dry land in the drydocks in the middle of Elysian Island, next to the Olifantus Tug boat.

Trivia[]
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City[]
- In GTA Vice City, there are letters on the back of the boat which read "Marquis 69," which is one of the many references to the 69 sex position.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories[]
- According to the game manual, the Marquis cost $84,800 in August 1984.
- The model in this game is reused from GTA Vice City, so the text on the back that reads "Marquis 69" is still present.
Grand Theft Auto V and Online[]
- The keel of the vessel is not solid and clips through the ground when beached. This is probably intentional in order for it to navigate through shallow waters.
