The Rio is a catamaran sailboat in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. It was meant to appear in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, but was cut from the final game, with only its handling data remaining in the game files.
Design[]
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City & Vice City Stories[]
The Rio strongly resembles a Prout Snowgoose 37, given the similar shape of the cabin quarters, the positioning of the bermuda rig/sail mast (though lacking a headsail) and the rear rudders.
The vessel is easily distinguished by its multihull design, where the front/bow area features a flat deck with a long anchor in the center, while tall hand rails surround the front and sides of the vessel. In the middle section of the deck, there are the cabin quarters with numerous opaque windows, various hatches on top and a bermuda rig similar to the Marquis, while an unusable door can be seen next to the control panel of the captain's area. The rear/stern area mainly consists of the twin rudders that are also shaped as the bow and a single outboard engine in the center, along with a right-mounted fan/anemometer on the right. Small keels and fins can be seen on the underside of the hull.
The Rio can spawn with a small canopy on top of the control deck, and it is assigned a primary color for most of the body and a secondary color for the lower portions of the hull and part of the cabin quarters, where the windows are located. The Rio only spawns in an all-white color.
Performance[]
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City & Vice City Stories[]
The size of the Rio, together with its dependence on a small motor, makes steering difficult and contributes to its slow speed, in a similar way to the performance of the Marquis. These shortcomings are downplayed in the Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories rendition, with better maneuverability. Due to its wide profile, the Rio struggles to navigate down small rivers.
