For the heist itself, see The Cayo Perico Heist.
The Cayo Perico Heist is a content update for Grand Theft Auto Online, released on December 15th, 2020.
Description[]
The first hint of this DLC came on the November 12th as a mysterious text message from Tom Connors and the addition of construction props by a service door on the north side of The Diamond Casino & Resort.[2] The next week, on November 19th, a teaser was uploaded on the Rockstar Games twitter account[3] and a dead, mutilated body with a briefcase appeared at random locations along the shoreline of Vespucci Beach. The next day, Rockstar released a teaser trailer on the Newswire along with the official title of the upcoming DLC and various information about its content. On December 5th, Rockstar announced through the Newswire the future opening of a new venue located under The Diamond Casino and Resort: The Music Locker.[4] After four days, on December 9th Rockstar released an additional newswire post alongside a new trailer.[5] One day later, on December 10th Rockstar released another newswire post, which stated that the Cayo Perico Heist DLC was the biggest musical update since launch, and that it will include three new radio stations (Still Slipping Los Santos, Kult FM 99.1 and Music Locker Radio), and new remixes for two existing stations (FlyLo FM and WorldWide FM).[6] The update was eventually released on December 15th.[7]

Image | Name | Information |
---|---|---|
Kult FM 99.1 | “Tune in, turn on and space out to the sounds of Kult FM, hosted by Julian Casablancas of The Strokes and The Voidz. The guestlist is star-studded, with appearances from Mac DeMarco, David Cross and Tony Mac, and the station’s playlist spans from the Madchester sounds of Joy Division, New Order and A Certain Ratio to heavy throwbacks from Danzig, the Velvet Underground and Iggy Pop, and everything in between, plus the world exclusive premiere of a new track from The Voidz called “Alien Crime Lord.””
— Rockstar Newswire | |
Still Slipping Los Santos | “UK DJ Joy Orbison has set up shop in Los Santos with hopes of launching his own pirate radio station – Still Slipping Los Santos – out of Mirror Park. Joy is ready to deliver a seamless mix of house, techno, drill and drum-and-bass to the masses – the only problem is he’s having trouble getting a strong enough signal to reach beyond his neighborhood. If he’s going to take his sound city and statewide, he’s going to need some help getting started. Keep an eye out for opportunities to support your local disc-jockey on December 15th.”
— Rockstar Newswire Available state-wide from December 22nd, 2020. | |
Music Locker Radio | “Later this December, The Music Locker will debut its own radio station, bringing the sets and sounds of the hottest new club in Los Santos above ground and onto the airwaves. Featuring mixes from Keinemusik, along with genre-defying sets from Palms Trax and Moodymann, The Music Locker will be the go-to destination for house, disco and techno.”
— Rockstar Newswire Released December 22nd, 2020. |
Updates to Existing Stations[]
To keep the returning stations feeling fresh and to give everyone a chance to find some new favorites, FlyLo and WorldWide FM will be bumping the all-new mixes and tracks only for a period after launch, with the classics mixed back in over time.”
FlyLo and WorldWide FM both receive updated track lists. These played exclusively from the launch of the DLC until the Manchez Scout Week on January 14, 2021, when the old track lists were integrated back into the stations. Both stations then played all their old tracks followed immediately by all the new tracks.

Cut Content[]
- The Avisa and Sparrow were originally to be sold separately from the Kosatka, as both of them have their own description, website image collages, and webpage code.[10][11]
- The Slamtruck has an unused livery that is based on the "Flywheels Garage" livery for the Peyote Gasser.[12]
- The Vetir features unused customization parts and an unused livery template, indicating it may have previously been storable in player garages and customizable.[13][14]
- The Veto Modern[15] and Veto Classic[16] have unused customization parts.
- The Weevil features several unused modifications, such as a removable spare wheel, a muscle car supercharger, and more spoiler options.[17]
- The Kosatka likely orignally had animations for when the player entered it using a vehicle, as it features unused hatches for the helipad and Moon Pool, separate from the hatches seen when exiting the Kosatka with these vehicles[18]. The Moon pool hatch can be briefly seen open when using the Kosatka as an approach vehicle during the finale.
- Originally, the Longfin was controled from the right side.[19]
- A fourth Keinemusik mission was originally going to appear. The player would be instructed to get tequila from The Diamond Casino & Resort and deliver it to Cayo Perico[20], similar to Palms Trax's Recover the delivery truck mission.
- Originally, the player had to physically pick up suppressors up from the Ammu-Nation in Cypress Flats after buying them for The Cayo Perico Heist[21], similar to Heist Prep: Masks for The Diamond Casino Heist.
- Unused voice lines from Pavel indicate that the Kosatka may have been able to be used to scope out Cayo Perico. Dialogue indicated that since the protagonist has no disguise, they'll only have one shot with this approach, getting caught likely means they'll get kicked off the island and wake up back at Los Santos.[22]
Trivia[]
- The platinum award for the Fill Your Bags challenge that was added with this update requires the player to obtain $200,000,000 of secondary loot, as opposed to the incorrectly stated $20,000,000, requiring the player to replay the Cayo Perico Heist at least 500 times to complete. This bug was eventually patched.
- The song used in the main trailer for the update is "Gettin' Money" by Burna Boy, and is also used during the transition to Cayo Perico for the first time, and also plays as background music during the first Cayo Perico scoping mission, but the song itself is not featured on any radio stations within the game itself.
- The song used in the November 20th preview is the instrumental version of “The Chocolate Conquistadors" by BADBADNOTGOOD & MF DOOM, of which the original version of the song was added as one of the new mixes added to WorldWide FM in the same update.
- The Song used in The Music Locker trailer is "I’ll Provide" by Moodymann, which is also available on Music Locker Radio.
- The update is the first time that two real-life fashion brands, MISBHV (pronounced "misbehave") and Civilist are featured in the game[23]. Both brands also have a collaboration with the German DJ group, Keinemusik.
- Some clothing from these brands can be purchased in any clothing stores, see Character Customization.
- A song by Keinemusik, "Civilist", which is named after the same named brand[24], is featured in the mentioned group's mix, and can also be heard on Music Locker Radio.
- This is the first update with new radio stations that were not added to Grand Theft Auto V.
