The Jobuilt Phantom is a tractor trailer truck appearing in Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online.
Influence[]
The Phantom's design draws significant inspiration from the Peterbilt 359EXHD, particularly in its front fascia and underbody, as well as the Peterbilt 379EXHD, which influences the cab design, hood shape, air cleaners, and sleeper configuration. Furthermore, some of the design elements are incorporated from the Peterbilt 389, and the Kenworth W900. Additionally, the Phantom features a T-bar and tail lights that resemble the custom options commonly found on Peterbilts.
Design[]
Grand Theft Auto IV[]
The truck serves as the only semi-trailer truck available in the game (although it is unable to move any of the cargo trailers around the city) and is possibly used in Labor Union Trucking (as the truck is driven by the Italian Mafia). The front of the vehicle features a large heavy-duty bumper with a red/white warning stripe at the bottom, the license plate on the center and a set of bumper guides on the edges. The front of the nose is finished in silver/chrome and features a large grille with a riveted surrounding and dual circular headlights mounted on either side of the grille, while the sides of the nose have large circular fenders for the front wheels. The same nose features cursive "Jobuilt" badges above the grille and on the sides.
The main cabin of the truck is very elevated, featuring a set of side steps and large fuel tanks on the lower sides, as well as cab skirts with additional lights. On the middle section, the truck features two large air cleaners between the nose and the cabin doors, long grab handles next to the doors and large vertical exhaust stacks between the main cabin and the sleeper cab. The upper area features a split windshield with a custom visor on the front, large rear-view mirrors on the doors and numerous circular marker lights and trumpet horns on the roof of the main cabin, along with fewer rectangular marker lights on the rear end of the sleeper cab. The sides of the sleeper cab bear gold "JOBUILT" and silver "Phantom V24 Supercharged" badges.
The rear section consist of the bare chassis with the corresponding fifth wheel, featuring side access ladders and small mudguards in front of the wheel set. The rear end has circular tail lights on the upper side, a central license plate below the reverse lights and large mudflaps behind the wheel set, bearing cursive "Jobuilt" badges at the bottom. Behind the sleeper cab, there are two vertical frames attached to the edges of the same, possibly intended to prevent the trailer damaging the truck when turning too sharply.
The truck is available in several single colors for the cabin, the sleeper cab and the front mudguards of the rear section. It uses industrial wheels also seen in vehicles like the Mule, the Benson and the Yankee.
The Phantom is equipped with a GPS system with a male voice, but only if the player leaves the "selected cars" (default) option in the audio menu.
Grand Theft Auto V and Online[]
The Phantom returns in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online with the same design as in Grand Theft Auto IV. However, it gains the ability to tow trailers, along with other semi-trucks featured in the game. The Phantom is also fitted with a CB radio, and occasional trucker chatter can be heard regardless of whether the main radio is turned on or off. The chatter will only play if playing as Trevor and in Blaine County.
Again, the truck is available in several single colors for the cabin, the sleeper cab and the front mudguards of the rear section, and uses the same industrial wheels from its previous rendition, also seen in vehicles like the Mule, the Benson, and the Yankee-based Towtruck.

Grand Theft Auto IV[]
In Grand Theft Auto IV, the Phantom's performance is above average for what one might expect from a truck of its size. It has above average acceleration, and given enough room, can reach an impressive top speed that can rival some sports cars. Cornering is rather sluggish, and careful use of the brakes are required at higher speeds to offset the understeer. Few non-armored vehicles can match the durability of the Phantom. Deformation damage seldom has need of being considered, and the engine can take several hard blows before giving out. As expected, it has a very high mass, easily ramming traffic out of the way, and capable of setting vehicles on fire with just one hit at a decent speed. As long as tight spaces are out of the question, the Phantom is quite viable for use as a chase or getaway vehicle. Despite being an enormous vehicle, the Phantom can still be used to perform burnouts and "donuts".
The Phantom has, according to badges, a 24-valve Supercharged engine. Strangely, the engine model for the Phantom appears to use 8 spark plugs textures, suggesting it is a petrol engine (untypical for a vehicle of this kind). It also suggests the engine can only be a petrol single-cam V8, but with a boxy appearance and connected to an adjacent air filter, with no sight of a supercharged as claimed. The 7-speed gearbox seems to be a rare use of an auxiliary gearbox in-game; a secondary gearbox working very similar to twin-geared bikes - the secondary gearbox having less gears than the primary gearbox, but giving the primary gearbox more potential by allowing a higher combination of gears. The exact same feature is found on the Packer in GTA IV. The gear shifts are very low and ratios seem almost equal (apart from the last gear). Its engine sound is somewhat similar to a diesel engine, which revs moderately high (yet still lower than other trucks, such as the Benson and Securicar), and provides a significantly smooth engine sound, yet the roar produced from the engine can still be heard unlike the aforementioned vehicles, the Benson and Securicar.

Grand Theft Auto V and Online[]
In Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online, the performance is virtually identical to its GTA IV counterpart. However, the general speed increase of vehicles in the game have toned down the advantages present before. It can still serve as a decent vehicle to travel long distances with, due to its acceptable speed and excellent durability. It is not recommended for off-road use, due to its top-heaviness and slow acceleration on slopes.
Again, the Phantom has, according to badges, a 24-valve Supercharged engine, with the same engine model as in GTA IV. However, it has a traditional 5-speed gearbox, lacking the auxiliary gearbox altogether. It retains the same engine sound from the GTA IV iteration, being also shared with trucks like the Packer and the Pounder.

- In The Lost and Damned's Gang Warfare, the Italian Mafia drives Phantom trucks that are the target vehicle. They are very well armored and the two occupants are armed, so the only way one can take it is by killing them and take the truck, losing the war.

- The name "Phantom" may be a reference to "Phantom 309", a truck driving song released originally by Red Sovine in 1967.
- The Phantom and the Packer in Grand Theft Auto IV both claim to have a V24 Supercharged engine, however, they are too small to fit a V24 engine; the correct configuration are either a straight-6 or V8, which are common in many industrial trucks. It is possible that the V24 nomenclature was meant to reference a 24-valve Straight-6 engine type, despite the fact that references to valve configurations on several other vehicles appears to be in the more accurate "24V" style nomenclature. It is possibly an oversight.
- This also applies to several MTL and Jobuilt vehicles in both Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online, where the same badge appears on them.

- The rearmost wheels are not solid, allowing the player to clip through them. Since the player is not technically on board of the vehicle, one may be pulled by the truck's rear mudflaps and move as fast as they can without being harmed.
