Robert J. Timlin was a federal judge who served on the United States District Court for the Central District of California. He joined the court in 1994 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. Timlin elected to take senior status on February 1, 2005, and served as a senior judge until his death on January 17, 2017.[1]

Early life and education

A native of Buffalo, New York, Timlin graduated from Georgetown University with his bachelor's degree in 1954. He earned both a J.D. and a LL.M. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1959 and 1964, respectively.[1]

Military career

Timlin served as a private first class in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957.[1]

Judicial career

Central District of California

Timlin began his federal judicial career as a magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the Central District of California. Timlin was appointed to a four year part-time term in 1971 and served in that role until 1975.

Timlin was nominated by President Bill Clinton on April 26, 1994, to a new seat created by 104 Stat. 5089. Timlin was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on September 14, 1994, on a voice vote and he received his commission on September 15, 1994. Timlin elected to take senior status on February 1, 2005, and he served as a senior judge until his death on January 17, 2017.[2] He was succeeded in this position by Judge Stephen Larson.
