Paul L. Friedman is a federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. He joined the court in 1994 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton.^[1]

Early life and education

A native of Buffalo, New York, Friedman graduated from Cornell University with his undergraduate degree in 1965 and from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law with his J.D. in 1968.^[1]

Judicial career

Friedman was nominated by Bill Clinton on March 22, 1994 to a seat on the United States District Court for the District of Columbia vacated by Gerhard Gesell. The American Bar Association rated Friedman Unanimously Well Qualified for the nomination. Hearings on Friedman's nomination were held before the Senate Judiciary Committee on May 25, 1994, and his nomination was reported by then-U.S. Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) on June 14, 1994. Friedman was confirmed on a voice vote of the U.S. Senate on June 15, 1994, and he received his commission the next day. Friedman elected to take senior status beginning on December 31, 2009. He was succeeded in this position by Judge Beryl A. Howell.^[1]^[2]^[3]
