Dominic J. Squatrito was a federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut. He joined the court in 1994 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. He left office on January 20, 2021, when he died.

Early life and education

A native of Hartford, Connecticut, Squatrito earned his bachelor's degree from Wesleyan University in 1961 and his LL.B. from Yale Law School in 1965. Squatrito attended the University of Florence, Italy, on a Fulbright scholarship in 1962.[1]

Squatrito was nominated by President Bill Clinton on July 28, 1994, to a new seat created by 104 Stat. 5089. The American Bar Association rated Squatrito Substantial Majority Well Qualified, Minority Qualified for the nomination. Hearings on Squatrito's nomination were held before the Senate Judiciary Committee on September 14, 1994, and his nomination was reported by then-U.S. Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) on September 22, 1994. Squatrito was confirmed on a voice vote of the U.S. Senate on October 7, 1994, and he received his commission the same day. Squatrito elected to take senior status beginning on November 1, 2004. He was succeeded in this position by Judge Vanessa Bryant.[1][2][3] Squatrito's term as senor judge ended with his death on January 20, 2021.
