Richard A. Lazzara is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. He joined the court in 1997 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. Prior to appointment, Lazzara was a court of appeals judge in Florida's Second Circuit Court of Appeals. On December 17, 2011 Richard Lazzara assumed seniors status for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida after 14 years on the court.[1]

Early life and education

A native of Florida, Lazzara graduated from Loyola University-New Orleans with his bachelor's degree in 1967 and later graduated from the University of Florida College of Law with his J.D. degree in 1970.[1]

Middle District of Florida

On the recommendation of Senator Bob Graham, Lazzara was nominated by President Bill Clinton on January 7, 1997, to a seat vacated by John Moore as Moore assumed senior status. Lazzara was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on September 26, 1997 on a Senate vote and received commission on September 29, 1997.[2] On December 17, 2011 Lazzara assumed seniors status for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida after 14 years on the court.[1]
