Valerie Baker Fairbank is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Central District of California. She joined the court in 2007 after being nominated by President George W. Bush. Fairbank assumed senior status on March 1, 2012.[1]

Education

Fairbank graduated from the University of California-Santa Barbara with her bachelor's degree in 1971 and then a Master's degree in 1972. Fairbank received her J.D. from the University of California Los Angeles Law School in 1975.[1]

Professional career

From 1975 to 1977 and again from 1980 to 1986, Fairbank was a private practice attorney in California. Fairbank served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California with the U.S. Attorney's Office from 1977 to 1980.[1]

Fairbank was a municipal court judge for the Los Angeles Municipal Court from 1986 to 1987 before becoming a superior court judge for Los Angeles County Superior Court before joining the federal court in 2007.[1]

Judicial career

Central District of California

Fairbank was nominated to the United States District Court for the Central District of California by President George W. Bush on January 9, 2007, to a seat vacated by Judge Consuelo B. Marshall as Marshall assumed senior status. Fairbank was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on February 1, 2007, on a majority vote and received commission on February 16, 2007. She assumed senior status on March 1, 2012.[2]
