Edward F. Shea is an Article III federal judge serving on senior status for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Washington. He joined the court in 1998 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. He assumed senior status on June 7, 2012.

Early life and education

A native of Massachusetts, Shea graduated from Boston State College with his bachelor's degree in 1965 and later graduated from Georgetown University Law Center with his J.D. in 1970.

Professional career

Shea began his legal career as a law clerk for State Appeals Judge Harold Petrie in the Washington Court of Appeals Division II from 1970 to 1971 before spending the rest of his pre-judicial legal career as a private practice attorney from 1971 to 1998.

Judicial career

Eastern District of Washington

Shea was nominated by President Bill Clinton on September 4, 1997 to a seat vacated by Alan McDonald as McDonald assumed senior status.[1] Shea was confirmed by the Senate on March 27, 1998 on a majority voice vote and received commission on April 8, 1998.[2] He assumed senior status on June 7, 2012.
