David Briones is a federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas. He joined the court in 1994 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton.

Early life and education

Born in El Paso, Texas, Briones graduated from the University of Texas with his bachelor's degree in 1969 and from the University of Texas School of Law with his J.D. in 1971.[1]

Military service

Briones served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1966.[1]

Briones was nominated to the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas by President Bill Clinton on August 25, 1994, to a seat vacated by Lucius Bunton. The American Bar Association rated Briones Unanimously Qualified for the nomination. Hearings on Briones' nomination were held before the Senate Judiciary Committee on October 6, 1994, and his nomination was reported by then-U.S. Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) the same day. Briones was confirmed on a voice vote of the U.S. Senate on October 7, 1994, and he received his commission on October 11, 1994. Briones elected to take senior status beginning on February 26, 2009. He was succeeded in this position by Judge David Guaderrama.[1][2][3]
