Susan C. Bucklew is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. She joined the court in 1993 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. Bucklew is serving on senior status.

Early life and education

Born in Tampa, Florida, Bucklew graduated from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida with her bachelor's degree in 1964 and later received a Master's degree from the University of South Florida in 1968. Bucklew obtained her J.D. degree at Stetson University College of Law in 1977.[1]

Professional career

Bucklew was Staff Corporate Counsel for the Jim Walter Corporation from 1978 to 1982 before entering the judicial ranks in 1982 as a county court judge for Hillsborough County until 1986. Bucklew was appointed Circuit Court Judge for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit of Florida where she served until 1993.[1]

Judicial career

Middle District of Florida

On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Bob Graham, Bucklew was nominated to the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida by President Bill Clinton on October 29, 1993 to a seat vacated by William Castagna. Bucklew was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on November 20, 1993 on a Senate vote and received commission on November 24, 1993. She assumed senior status on August 1, 2008.[1][2]
