The Granz Channel ｢グランツ
Overview[]
The Granz Channel is used as a passageway for ships, and on the first sunrise of the new year, the Granz Channel becomes very picturesque because of the sunlight reflected on the untainted sea. Viewing this has been the tradition of the village situated near the cliffs on the coast of the Granz Channel.
Terrain and Ecology[]
The region around the Granz Channel has low vegetation with some sparse trees spread in the area, and the channel itself has a beach rim in. The villagers grow greenery and colorful flowers in flower pots and planters. Aquatic species, such as seaweed and other water plants, are part of the ecosystem, feeding fish and other creatures like starfish.
The Village[]
On the cliffs overlooking the coast of the Granz Channel lies a small village. The village has plenty of houses, shops, inns, and a church.
The village has a tradition of watching the New Year's sunrise because of how picturesque the Granz Channel looks. The coast was initially littered with shipwrecks that washed up on shore until Frieren and Fern were hired to clean the coast up. As payment, they received the only grimoire in the village, which was supposedly from the Great Mage Flamme.

History[]
During the time of the Hero Party's journey, the party stopped in the Granz Channel during the New Year's festival. At the time, the coastline was free of debris. Himmel wanted the party to watch the sunrise together, but Frieren slept in instead, as she didn't see the value of getting up early just to see a sunrise.
This would later cause Himmel to gently rebuke her by stating that Heiter was so disappointed that his condition had deteriorated from the sadness, though in reality, it was the result of a hangover. Frieren interjects that she doesn't see what the big deal is, since the rest of the party was able to see the sunrise and she personally did not think it would have been fun. However, Himmel tells Frieren that the party had wanted her to enjoy the sunrise as well, and that she would have had fun because that is who she is.[1]
Beyond Journey's End Arc[]
Frieren and Fern are hired to clean the coast of the village next to the Granz Channel, with a supposed grimoire from the Great Mage Flamme as a reward. They commence cleaning operations and, after clearing the coast for over three months, finish just in time for the New Year's sunrise.
Frieren is awoken by Fern to see the sunrise, and she thinks back to when she and the Hero Party were there and did not participate in the sunrise viewing. Decades later, with Fern, she now understands the beauty in viewing the sight with others.
