The Saum Marshesザオム湿 (しつ) (げん) Zaomu Shitsugen? are situated in the Northern Lands.

Overview[]

The Saum Marshes are located in the Northern Lands. The marshlands create unstable ground, which can lead to cave-ins. Magic-nullifying crystals are found on the surface due to deposits of magic-nullifying crystal ore beneath the ground. The area is home to a Venomous Apex Dragon, which has made a cave entirely of magic-nullifying crystals its lair. There is also a village in the region.[1]

Synopsis[]

Continued Northern Travels Arc[]

Twenty-nine years after the death of Himmel the Hero, Frieren and her party are traveling through the wetlands. While Fern prepares breakfast after Stark catches some fish, Frieren discovers a magic-nullifying crystal. Fern advises her to throw it away, as it may pose a danger. Before doing so, Frieren pours mana into the crystal, causing it to emit a bright light.

As they continue their journey, Frieren notes that they can still see the crystal's light even from a distance. Eventually, the ground beneath them gives way, and they fall into a cave filled with magic-nullifying crystals. They explore the cave for an exit but decide to take a break and camp inside. While they are camping, a Venomous Apex Dragon appears, forcing Frieren and her party to flee. They eventually find their way out of the cave and back into the forest, allowing them to continue their travels.
