Season 1 of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End was the first season of the Frieren anime adaptation, which priemered on September 29, 2023 and ran through March 22, 2024. The anime aired for two consecutive cours,[1] and there were a total of 28 episodes,[2] which included an initial two-hour episode split into four individual episodes of normal runtime. The first cour ran from September 29, 2023 through December 22, 2023 and consisted of Episode 1 through Episode 16. The second cour ran from January 5, 2024 through March 22, 2024 and consisted of Episode 17 through Episode 28.
Overview[]
The announcement of Season 1 occurred on September 13, 2022, for the manga's one-hundredth chapter. The announcement included the release of a key visual on its Twitter and official website.
The anime premiered on September 29, 2023, with the first episode being a two-hour special[3] airing at 9:00 PM JST. It was animated by MADHOUSE[4] and released weekly on Fridays at 11:00 PM JST (FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT) through Nippon TV.[5]
A Mini Anime spin-off series began releasing on October 11, 2023 on the TOHO animation channel.[6] It details characters in the series exploring various spells and magic.
Synopsis[]
After the party of heroes defeated the Demon King, they restored peace to the land and returned to lives of solitude. Generations pass, and the elven mage Frieren comes face to face with humanity's mortality. She takes on a new apprentice and promises to fulfill old friends' dying wishes. Can an elven mind make peace with the nature of life and death? Frieren embarks on her quest to find out.[7]
