The Etwas Mountains 「エトヴァス
Overview[]
The Etwas Mountains are located in the Northern Lands, in a volcanic area where eruptions once occurred, though none have happened for centuries. Due to this inactivity and the region's warmer climate, the Etwas Mountains were once famous for their hot springs, which attracted many adventurers. However, the hot springs dried up at some point before the death of Himmel the Hero, causing adventurers to stop visiting. As a result, the area's inhabitants left, and the villages were abandoned.
Synopsis[]
History[]
During their journey to defeat the Demon King, the Hero Party passed through the Etwas Mountains and a village where they experienced the region's hot springs. While there, they sought the secret hot spring of the Etwas Mountains, which required them to traverse the territory of a monster. This journey was particularly challenging, with both Frieren and Eisen wanting to turn back. Upon finding the hot spring, they discovered it was merely a foot bath. Nevertheless, they sat and enjoyed the view of the mountains before leaving.
Continued Northern Travels Arc[]
Twenty-nine years after the death of Himmel the Hero, Frieren's Party travels through the Etwas Mountains in search of the old village that Frieren visited. They find only a single cabin, which worries Frieren. A resident of the cabin informs them that the village was abandoned over thirty years ago,[1] and that the only remaining hot spring may be the secret hot spring of the Etwas Mountains. This prompts Frieren to consider departing for the next town, but Stark convinces her to search for the secret hot spring instead.
While on their journey to find it, they enter the territory of a three-headed dragon and manage to fend it off. When they finally locate the hot spring, Stark and Fern discover that the water is shallow. Frieren explains that this is why she was hesitant to search for it. Despite this, Stark decides to enter the spring anyway and encourages them to join him. As they relax in the secret hot spring, Stark reveals that he heard about this place from his master, who told him that the journey was not worth the effort, though he cherished the memory and would never forget the view from that day.
On their way back, Fern comments on how the return journey is just as harsh, and Stark remarks that perhaps it was not worth it after all.
