Frederick J. Kapala is a federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Kapala joined the court in 2007 after being nominated by President George W. Bush (R). He assumed senior status on May 10, 2019.[1][2]

Early life and education

Kapala was born in Rockford, Illinois. He earned a bachelor's degree from Marquette University in 1972. He earned a J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1976.[1]

Northern District of Illinois

Kapala was nominated to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois by President George W. Bush (R) on January 9, 2007, to a seat vacated by Philip Reinhard. Kapala was confirmed by the Senate on May 8, 2007, and received commission on May 10, 2007. He assumed senior status on May 10, 2019.[1]

Iain D. Johnston was nominated by President Donald Trump (R) to succeed Kapala on the Northern District of Illinois. Johnston was confirmed in 2020.
