Born in Dallas, Texas, Crone graduated from the University of Texas with her bachelor's degree in 1973 and from the University of Houston Law Center with her J.D. in 1978.[1]

Crone was nominated by President George W. Bush on May 1, 2003, to a new seat on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas created by 116 Stat. 1758. The American Bar Association rated Crone Substantial Majority Qualified, Minority Not Qualified for the nomination. Hearings on Crone's nomination were held before the Senate Judiciary Committee on September 3, 2003, and her nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) on September 25, 2003. Crone was confirmed on a recorded 91-0 vote of the U.S. Senate on September 30, 2003, and she received her commission on October 3, 2003.[1][2][3]
