Samuel Der-Yeghiayan is a former federal (Article III) judge on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He joined the court in 2003 after being nominated by President George W. Bush (R). He retired from the court in 2018.

John Kness succeeded Der-Yeghiayan in this position.

Early life and education

Born in Aleppo, Syria, Der-Yeghiayan was a graduate of Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri, with a bachelor's degree in 1975. He obtained a J.D. from Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, New Hampshire, in 1978.[1]

Judiciary career

On the recommendation of Senator Peter Fitzgerald, Der-Yeghiayan was nominated by President George W. Bush on March 5, 2003, to a seat vacated by Marvin Aspen. Der-Yeghiayan was confirmed by the Senate on July 14, 2003, and received commission on July 15, 2003.[1]
