Nannette Brown is the chief judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. She joined the court in 2011 after a nomination from President Barack Obama. Prior to nomination, Brown was the City Attorney for the City of New Orleans, a position she had held since May of 2010.[1][2][3]
Early life and education
Brown attended University of Southwestern Louisiana (now University of Louisiana at Lafayette) and graduated with an B.A. in 1985. Brown received a J.D. from Tulane Law School in 1988 and her LL.M. in Energy and Environment from Tulane in 1998.[4][3]

Brown was nominated by President Obama on March 2, 2011 to fill a seat on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana vacated by Stanwood Duval.[4] Obama said of the nomination, “I am proud to nominate these three outstanding candidates to serve on the United States District Court bench. They all have long and distinguished records of service, and I am confident they will serve on the federal bench with distinction.”[4]
The American Bar Association gave Jolivette-Brown a rating of Unanimously Qualified. She had a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on May 4, 2011, and you can find her Committee Questionnaire available here and her Questions for the Record available here.
On October 3, 2011 Brown was confirmed to the position by a Senate voice vote.[5]
