Sarah Tilghman Hughes (1896-1985) was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas.

Hughes received a recess appointment from President John F. Kennedy to the Northern District of Texas on October 5, 1961, to a new seat created by 75 Stat. 80; nominated on January 15, 1962; she was confirmed by the Senate on March 16, 1962, and received her commission on March 17, 1962. She assumed senior status on August 4, 1975. She served the Northern District of Texas until her death on April 23, 1985.[1] Hughes was succeeded in this position by Patrick Higginbotham.

On November 22, 1963, Hughes swore in Lyndon B. Johnson as president on Air Force One following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.[2]
