Harvey Erwin Schlesinger is an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. He joined the court in 1991 after being nominated by President George H.W. Bush. Schlesinger is serving on senior status.

Early life and education

Schlesinger graduated from The Citadel with his bachelor's degree in 1962 and later graduated from the University of Richmond's T.C. Williams School of Law with his juris doctorate degree in 1965. From 1965 to 1968, Schleisnger served in the US Army.

Professional career

Schlesinger started his career as a instructor for John Marshall Law School-Atlanta from 1967 to 1968 before becoming staff corporate counsel for Seaboard Coast Line Railroad from 1968 to 1970. In 1970, Schlesinger became a chief assistant US attorney in the Middle District of Florida from 1970 till he was first appointed to the Federal Bench as a magistrate judge in 1975. Also, Schlesigner was a adjunct professor for the University of North Florida from 1984 to 1992.

Judicial career

Middle District of Florida

Schlesinger started his federal judicial career as a Magistrate judge in 1975 before being appointed to the federal bench in 1991. On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Connie Mack III, Schlesinger was nominated by President George HW. Bush on May 23, 1991 to a seat vacated by Howell Melton as Melton assumed senior status.[1] Schlesigner was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on June 27, 1991 on a senate vote and received commission on July 2, 1991. Schlesinger assumed senior status on June 5, 2006. Schlesinger was succeeded in this position by Marcia Howard.
