Ai the idol is much tougher... than I thought she was. Crafty, strong... and as dazzling as the evening's first star. The doctor.. and fan have reached an agreement. If that will make you happy, then that's what we'll do. After all... you couldn't possibly be more of an idol... and I couldn't possibly be a more devoted fan.

― Gorou Amamiya[src]

Gorou Amamiya (あま) (みや) () (ろう) , Amamiya Gorō?[note 1] was the introductory character of Oshi no Ko. He was a medical doctor specializing in obstetrics and gynecology and the one responsible for delivering Ai Hoshino's baby. He was later killed by a stalker of Ai and, ironically, got reincarnated as her child, Aqua.

Appearance

Gorou was a man with dark hair and square-rimmed glasses.

In all of his appearances, he always wore a doctor's white coat.

Personality

Gorou appeared to be a dedicated and compassionate obstetrician-gynecologist who cared deeply about his patients. He was also a fan of idols, but his interest seemed to be driven by a desire to fulfill the wishes of a patient, Sarina Tendouji, rather than any questionable motives. However, the mention of Goro carrying a "loli-con image" raises concerns about his interests. Despite this, Goro is portrayed as understanding and supportive of Ai's pregnancy, indicating that he is capable of empathy and showing ''professional diligence'', do not mix personal matters.

His willingness to confront a pursuer of Ai, even at the risk of his own life, demonstrates his courage and dedication to protecting those he cares about.

Overall, he is also portrayed as a caring and dedicated professional who is willing to go to great lengths to support his patients.

Relationships

Sarina Tendouji

Despite not her doctor, Gorou was Sarina's primary caretaker during her time at the hospital. He befriended her, felt bad for her struggles, and the two grew close. Eventually, Sarina developed feelings for Gorou, who was her first love. While Gorou did not harbor romantic feelings for Sarina given her age and plight, she did have a huge impact on him; when Sarina died, he openly teared up, implying her death devastated him greatly. Also, he became a fan of Ai due to Sarina being a fan as well.

Etymology

  • The name Gorou means "I, me" (吾) (go) and "son" (郎) (rou).
  • Gorou's surname Amamiya means "rain" (雨) (ame/ama) and "Shinto shrine" (宮) (miya).

Trivia

  • Both Gorou and Sarina are the only characters that were introduced without a surname, up until Chapter 75, where their surnames are both revealed.
  • He was a graduate of the Tokyo Medical and Dental University.[3]
  • Similar to medical schools in the UK and other Commonwealth countries, Japanese medical schools are undergraduate entry programs that typically last for six years, and the following residency programs typically last for two years. Assuming Gorou finished high school at age 18 and took no gap years before medical school or before his residency, he was likely around 24-26 when he knew Sarina and 28-30 in Chapter 1.
  • He originally wanted to be a surgeon before becoming an ob-gyn.

Note

  1. The reading of Gorou's surname was given as Amemiya (あめ) (みや) , Amemiya?」 in the initial magazine release of Chapter 75, but was corrected later in the Volume 8 release to Amamiya (あま) (みや) , Amamiya?」.
