Studio Visit「職場訪問, Shokuba Hōmon?」 is the forty-seventh chapter of the Oshi no Ko manga series. It is written by Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari. It was released in Weekly Young Jump on June 17, 2021.[1]
Summary[]
As Yoriko and Abiko make their way out of the studio after watching the rehearsals, Yoriko tells Abiko that the production staff were not happy with her requests and she should try to see things their way. However Abiko dismisses it and argues that Yoriko is too lenient, which is how they ended up with the travesty of Sweet Today. She goes on to state that she finds most art trashs, therefore it is here belief that most creators are lacking, and as a result she has to believe in her own talent. Yoriko thinks that Abiko can only get away with it because she is a genius.
Later, some cast members of the Tokyo Blade stage play, namely Kana, Akane, Melt and Aqua pays Yoriko a visit at her studio. Everyone are excited to see a manga's workshop in person and Kana tries show off in front of Akane by claiming that she has visited multiple times prior. Yoriko then performs a demonstration using the LCD tablet. Melt gives a rather enthusiastic response but is given the cold shoulder by Yoriko. which somewhat bothers him. Everyone then gathers at the table for snacks and Yoriko offers them alcohol only to find out all of her guests are underage. Akane questions Aqua about the wisdom of visiting Yoriko when the one they need to convince is Abiko and Aqua explains that creative types stop listening once they become popular and the only people they listen to are fellow creatives. It is even more effective if the words come from someone they consider senior or respected, and Yoriko fits the bill.
Aqua then asks Yoriko about Abiko and she explains that her former apprentice has a busy schedule since her manga is published weekly and her work is getting adapted into an anime. In fact, she had to steal time the other day in order to pay the studio a visit. Noticing the close bond between the two, Akane asks about their relationship. Yoriko explains that Abiko was not particularly good at socializing but after reading her work, she could tell that Abiko wanted to form connections, and so her apprentice became rather attached to her. Then Abiko started serializing Tokyo Blade and surpassed Yoriko in no time. As a result she thinks she is invincible. Akane then asks does Abiko not have an editor to keep her on her toes but Yoriko explains that the editor are only interested in making sure the manga sells and the ones that sell will keep going. In other words, it is their job is to babysit the mangaka to make sure they are happy.
Akane makes a request to Yoriko, asking her to change Abiko's mind regarding the script. Yoriko has a brief reflection about Abiko, she has reservations about her former apprentice. Watching Abiko surpassing her was also rather unsettling. Yoriko then apologizes as she does not feel she can offer much help. Nonetheless Aqua leaves a theater ticket for her to pass on to Abiko.
