They don't want to... but everyone lies. ... Great. Bring it on. See, my Ai... is a professional liar!

― Ichigo Saitou[src]

Ichigo Saitou (さい) (とう) (いち) () , Saitō Ichigo?」 is a supporting character in Oshi no Ko. He is the former president of Ichigo Production, Inc as well as the person who scouted Ai Hoshino and brought her to fame. However, following his prized star's death, he spiraled into a depression and went missing, forcing his wife to take up his responsibilities.

Spoilers Ahead!

It is eventually revealed that, like Aqua, he began his own investigation into the true culprits behind Ai's death, intent on avenging his surrogate daughter. He later also returns to his former position after he reunites with his wife and she subsequently blackmails him.

Appearance[]

In his early appearance, he wore his black suit with a white shirt carelessly, adorning a shade, has blonde, short hair and thin facial hair.

After Ai's death, Ichigo grew out his hair to neck-length and adorned a dark vest over his shirt. But after Ruby asked for his help in becoming a popular idol, he cut his hair back to its original length while for his meetings with business partners to get her jobs.

Personality[]

Ichigo had a competitive nature regarding the show business industry, proven by bringing Ai and the rest of B-Komachi to fame and even securing them a performance in the Tokyo Dome before Ai's untimely demise.

Devastated by the tragedy, Ichigo abandoned Ichigo Production, Inc and secluded himself in a solitary life. While he claimed to be uninterested in producing idols, some passion still remained inside him when advising Ruby.

Etymology[]

  • The name Ichigo literally means "one" (壱) (ichi) and "safeguard, protect" (護) (go). Put together, it also forms a wordplay of "strawberry" (苺) (Ichigo).
  • Ichigo's surname Saitou means "religious purification/purification, Buddhist food, room, worship, avoid, alike" (斎) (sai) and "wisteria" (藤) (tou).
