Behind-the-Scenes[]

Background[]

During the filming of That Was the Start, Ai Hoshino asked Taishi Gotanda to make a documentary film about B-Komachi. He reluctantly accepted the request and started shooting the film. However, he also wanted to film the real Ai that wasn't covered with lies, which she agreed. It was progressing well, with all that remained was filming B-Komachi's live show at the dome when an incident happened: Ai was murdered, and the project was canceled.[5]

14 years later, Ai's secret of having twins when she was 16 is published by her own son, Aqua Hoshino.[11] Realizing it is the right time, Taishi decides to restart the project with Aqua's supporting, now as a movie telling the story about a famous idol's life and hidden details behind her glory.[12] The project is pitched to Masaya Kaburagi, who agrees to produce the movie.[5]

Mangakas Yoriko Kichijouji and Abiko Samejima were involved in improving the script, specifically with the romance scenes.[1]

Real People Involvements[]

The production was visited by former members of B-Komachi, Nino and Takamine, who also provided insight to Ai's characters.

To avoid legal issues, permission to use the names of real people currently alive have been obtained.[13]

Despite its purpose, Hikaru Kamiki himself is aware of the movie's production and becomes one of its sponsors.[13] He is in contact with Nino and denies the permission to use his name in the movie.

Other[]

  • According to Frill Shiranui, who had early access to the script, the movie is an attempt to kill Aqua and Ruby's father, Hikaru Kamiki.
    • It is elaborated by Hikaru that the movie will kill his social career as the audience will pin him as the culprit behind Ai's death.
    • Aqua further reveals that the movie is also the siblings' revenge on Hikaru for not understanding Ai's love.[14]

Release[]

During the film's final production phases, Aqua would get in his final confrontation with Hikaru, and the resulting scuffle would end with both men dead. After Aqua's funeral, despite hesitance from upper management staff, The 15 Year Lie would be released to critical acclaim.

Trivia[]

  • The movie's title is later used as the chapter name for Chapter 154, in which Aqua reveals the true meaning of the movie and its title.
