Robert Lee Carter was a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. He joined the court in 1972 after being nominated by President Richard Nixon. Carter is a judge served on senior status until he passed away on January 3, 2012.[1]

Education

Carter graduated from Lincoln University with his bachelor's degree in 1937 and later earned a Bachelor of Laws from Howard University School of Law in 1940 and later earned a Master in Laws from Columbia Law School in 1941. [1]

Military service

Carter also served as a U.S. Army Air Corps Lieutenant from 1941 to 1944.[1]

Judicial career

Southern district of New York

Carter was nominated by Richard M. Nixon on June 15, 1972 to a seat vacated by Thomas Croake. Carter was confirmed by the Senate on July 21, 1972 on a senate vote and received commission on July 25, 1972. Carter was succeeded in this position by Kenneth Conboy. Carter later assumed senior status on December 31, 1986, where he served until his passing in 2012.[1]
