Garnett Thomas Eisele was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas. Eisele joined the court in 1970 after a nomination from President Richard Nixon (R) and he served on the court until his death on November 26, 2017.[1]

Early life and education

A native of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Eisele graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with his bachelor's degree in 1947 and from Harvard Law School with his LL.B. and his LL.M. in 1950 and 1951 respectively.[1]

Military service

Eisele served as a private in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. He later served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1952 to 1961.[1]

Judicial nominations and appointments

Eastern District of Arkansas

Eisele was nominated by President Richard Nixon (R) on January 23, 1970, to a seat on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas vacated by Gordon Young. Eisele was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on August 5, 1970, and he received his commission the next day. Eisele served as the district court's chief judge from 1975 to 1991 before electing to take senior status on August 1, 1991. Eisele served as a senior federal judge from August 1, 1991, until his death on November 26, 2017. He was succeeded in this position by Judge William Wilson.[1]
